How does IOM work?

Hi,

I've seen a few references to the International Organization for Migration in threads but unfortunately when I do a search it says there are no results (even though I know there are!!) so I can't find any more info.

It seems that they can help with moving personal belongings (3 x 23 kg bags for not much extra cost?) if you book your ticket through them?

I've had a look at the website and at the website for my partner's country (France) but the only info I can find about this seems to only apply to refugees...

I'm particularly interested in finding out about help with transporting luggage, as my partner is a musician (drums, possibly the most inconvenient instrument there is!) and is looking at a few thousand of dollars to get his stuff over here.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi jesse

I have booked my flight with them and worked well.

Depening on your airline you can get the 3x23kg. Or 40kg( I got 40) flying emirates.

On the Madrid thread I posted the France contacts have a look.
Sorry, harder for me to post on my mobile.

Feel free to as questions

Thanks for your reply, rufa. So you don't need to be a refugee or anything, any migrant can use their services? And did you just contact them via the website about booking your flight?

Actually we called them and then did everything via email. Once you reserve with them you have to send them the grant letter and you get a substantial lower one way ticket, even with their fee.
Apparently the bookings get done from iom canberra.

I as an Australian living abroad also benefited from IOM

Go through the Madrid thread I'm almost sure I posted the contacts their for France

Let me know if you bed anything else if you want I can PM with the contacts once I get to a computer.

Thanks heaps for the info, rufa. My partner is going to call the French branch. Hopefully it'll all work out, it almost sounds too good to be true!
