PMV to 820

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if we could get some help on the timeline of PMV to 820 application.

My partner's PMV expires 23 June 2016. We are getting married this April and plan to submit our 820 application sometime in May.
Does the bridging visa A (issued when 820 application is submitted) only kick in after 23 June 2016 as technically PMV is still valid, or does the bridging visa A kick in immediately and override the PMV?

Also if my partner needs to apply for a bridging visa B, can we put in the application together with the 820? How do we go about this?

Thanks all!

It kicks in once the PMV expires.

BVB is only done by paper but I would wait till close till you either leave or it expires as PMV to 820 is very fast.

Hey Claire100,

The BVA will remain inactive until the PMV is valid. It will activate automatically once your PMV expires until your subclass 820 is approved.
If you need to travel, you will have to apply for BVB which will allow you to leave and re-enter Australia.

You should be able to apply for the BVB at the same time, however I'm not too sure of the process.
Good Luck!

Kind Regards,
Becky

Thanks Mish! Oh no ... does that mean we should just wait until early June 2016 to submit our application?

My partner will be in Australia mid May to submit the 820 application and might need to travel overseas mid June. As the PMV is still valid mid June, does this means that he will need to return to Australia before the PMV expires just to submit the application for a BVB?

You can submit your 820 whenever you like. It will just be sitting there until a case officer looks at it. Then at least you will have peace of mind that once the PMV expires, the BVA will kick in.

If you are overseas when the BVA kicks in, then he won't be able to return to Australia. He would need another visa to return. There are a number of posts on this forum where this has happened. To be safe, I wouldn't be considering any travel in June until you have applied and have been successfully granted a BVB.

Thanks everyone for your advice!
We'll need to reschedule travel plans then.

Has there been any cases that once PMV expires, the 820 is granted immediately instead of any BVA? (assuming that 820 was submitted and processed while the PMV is valid).

It is very rare for them to grant the 820 as soon as they receive it. Usually it is a few weeks to a month or so until the 820 is granted.

You can submit the 820 as soon as you are married. Just that the BVB will not be granted until a couple of days before he travels.

I have never heard of anyone submitting the BVB when they lodge the 820 usually this is done afterwards.
