You should be able to. We plan to do that soon too.

You can but it is not necessary to change your current licence until you are granted a permanent resident visa.
Here is a link.

Depending where you are from you may have only to answer the questions , others have to do a full driving test.
Some people have also said that if you have to do a driving test and fail you will have to get a learners license and start from scratch so it would be worth checking oit before you commit.

Ok she is from Russia and has a overseas licence , but figured it would be easier to get a licence here, not sure if she has to go through all the testing from Ls to Ps again might give the department of transport a ring but it looks like from that link she won't be able to get anything until perm residence.

I don't think she has to wait until she is a PR before she starts the process and applies for a Learners license.

As Russia is not a recognised country for a transfer, if she has an actual license (not a learners) she can book in to qld transport and do the driving test. If she fails the test she will lose her overseas license and have to apply for a learners permit.

She can essentially drive on Australian roads until either her international license expires or within 3 months of getting PR whichever happens first. My husband isn't changing his over until he gets PR since his is valid until 2018.

Also the Russian drivers license needs to be translated.
