Question Police check urgent!

Hi everyone!

I'm on the waiting for any signal about my partner visa 820 on shore application since july 2015. Now I've got this automatic email reminding me a checklist of things I need to submit. One is the police clearance from any country resided for more than 12 months cumulative. Being Uruguayan, I assume I need one from my country. BUT! my country is not like USA or most european countries, the only way to get a police clearance certificate is going there in person, then I have to legalize the document, translate it, and legalize the translation...it's actually a really old school process. My question is: how necesary is this? Wouldn't an Australian Federal Police check be enough? How strict are they about it???

Thanks, if anyone has been in a similar situation and solved it please tell me how!

If you live outside of Uruguay:
You must have a representative in Uruguay apply on your behalf. You must go to your nearest Uruguay embassy or consulate and:

Pay the applicable fees
Have your fingerprints taken by your local consular office of the Uruguay embassy or consulate
Name someone to represent you in Uruguay
Send your application and fingerprints authorized by the embassy or consulate to your representative so that he/she can apply at the National Technical Police Direction (Dirección Nacional de Policía Técnica) on your behalf.

Who knows if you are a serial killer in your country and was in jail for many years. So, the Australian government needs to know what kind of character you are before deciding on granting you a visa. That document is a must to provide.

Police checks are mandatory. At times a waiver is possible if a country will not issue a certificate, but they don't give a waiver simply because it's inconvenient for the applicant to get one.
