Washington DC time to case officer appointment

Hi all, was just wondering for those of you who applied to Washington DC Australian embassy, how long before you got a case officer appointed?

We applied for a 309 TR partner visa on the 26th of October 2012, they took the money from the credit card OK. We haven't had a letter acknowledging our application, or a receipt for the fee. We did ring the embassy and got a file number but were told that we don't have a case officer yet after 2 weeks, is that normal for Washington. Is no news good news or am I being paranoid?
Thanks,

Kttykat

Fingers Crossed

I joined this forum just to give you some feedback. I sent my app to Washington DC on August 28th, I received feedback that it was receieved on August 29th. I have heard nothing since. I called the embassy and was told it could take 4 months before getting a CO which is baffling. I'm noticing in other countries that some people are done with the process in 3 months! My only hope is that once you get a CO the process will be about complete but I don't know.

Thanks Hugh, I think I will ring the embassy again and see if they got my email right. I don't want to find that they sent an email to the wrong address with a you have 28 days to respond type thing after the fact.

Thanks for that Harb and Mynx,

I did ring the embassy today and asked them about the notification, couldn't call Washington directly had to go through the Canada number. Gave the woman my email again and my husbands and double checked she had them right, she said she would call them and get them to send out a notification of acceptance of application and to check the email addresses. Hopefully this will make them look at the file again and confirm that they are sending to the right address. I asked again and we still have no case officer yet.

The doctors results should arrive tomorrow too, so hopefully it is now truly decision ready as they will then have all that is asked for and more. We don't want it to take a year, my husband has to return to Oz in January and we feel like we have had more than enough time apart, we don't fancy going back to a Skype relationship.

Good luck with your application, I hope they give it to you soon.

Due to the large number of people applying for a wide variety of visas, it takes time. I applied and my application was received in 25th of June. I did not get notice that they received my application until 16th of July. I paid for my visa before I submitted it and while I was still in Australia.

I did not get my case officer until October and she did not state she was that ever the only clue is it is who my direct link to Australian immigration and in her signature it says Immigration Officer. This is where I was requested to get her the medicals and the state police and FBI check. I am currently waiting for my FBI report to be sent to Washington as the FBI charged my card last week. Once she receives this she will be finalizing my application.

Hey Penguina,

Yeah, we didn't realize the fees for application were going up next year, I think this has caused a flood of applications. We have really got a decision ready application in, with the medicals going in tomorrow, I really hope this will speed up the process but don't feel confident that it will.

The fees can and typically do go up each July as I looked into this before I put my application in. Everything I have gathered being on this board and a few others is that it doesn't necessarily speed up the process as it still needs to be assigned a CO and each CO has at least 200 different visas that they are working on.
In my experience it is better to use the Americas email on the Australian embassy website and give them as much detail as you can versus calling as they come back with a detailed response instead of talking to someone whom doesn't have anything in front of them. Before getting assigned my CO I used it to find out what was going on as I was trying to find out about getting the medicals and the state police and FBI check done.

I didn't realize I needed true FBI fingerprints and not electronic until 2 weeks ago, needless to say a day later I had them in the mail. Any idea how long it takes them? I can't schedule a med exam yet because I don't have the info for the eHealth submission, any way to pry that out of them so I can speed this process up?

Thanks for sharing the info, I read it and freak out as my family is due to fly out in the beginning of January and I don't even have a CO!

The FBI fingerprinting can take between 6-8 weeks. I had my FBI background check take about 5 weeks til they charged my card and about 3 weeks to get to the Washington office as I had it sent directly to them.

They want both a State background check and the FBI background check. My NJ state one took less than 2 weeks.

You may need to contact the office about getting a tourist visa since you don't have a CO yet and leave the country - go to New Zealand or something when your visa is ready.

Call the place that you are going to use for your health exam and ask if they are doing it electronically or not since I went to a place in NYC and it was not doing the ehealth and you can also request for the ehealth number that you would need by using the americas online.
