Time between Medicals by request and Visa Grant

Hi All,

I have been reading conflicting info about the time it has taken for some people to be granted their visas after getting the medical done after requested to do so.

My hubby is a US citizen and we are applying offshore through the Washington embassy. They received our application on July 3. We were finally contacted by our CO requesting Medicals (Police check sent already) on 6 Nov (Over 4 months later!!!) My hubby is getting his medical done today in Miami. Does anyone have any idea what that will mean with regards to a visa grant date?

Thanks

You can't say anything bout it. I applied for a 309 via Berlin on 6-8 and I did my medical on 23-8. Since then haven't heared anything. ( got some document back today though). Reading a lot of stories on this forum and every story is different. So it can be next week but ( I hope not for you) it can take another few months.
Good luck with it!

Thanks Frutsal,

I hope it gets done within the 5 month mark but US Thanksgiving and Christmas might delay things!

You're welcome.
I was thinking about the same thing...holidays will delay some things. Or maybe they will speed up because of this..:-)

I wonder if Hurricane Sandy has slowed stuff down in Washington too. I know they were closed for a couple of days because of it. In our case we did the medical in Chicago before being asked, we rang the embassy first and they said it was ok to do that, we are prepared to redo it again if it takes longer than a year but I hope it doesn't as my husband has to go back to Oz in January

I have to go back to Oz in Dec… we are planning that both of us will go together on Dec 23 to arrive on Christmas Day… I am REALLY hoping that the visa comes through before then because if not it will mean he will have to travel on a visa waiver and make a trip to NZ when the visa is finally ready to be processed… as if the whole ordeal isn’t as expensive enough as it is!

I know what you mean. We fly on the 7th of December because hubby has to start job on the 10th. I'll go on tourist visa if 309 still isn't granted and yes..you r right about the costs. Another ticket to and from somewhere outside aus. will bring the whole bill to a new height.
On the other side.....we CAN spend the holidays with our loved ones. I will keep thinking positive otherwise we all loose our minds...:-)

Yeah I really don't understand why there is a need to be offshore if applied offshore but onshore if applied onshore, what difference does it really make. When we already have told them of our intentions and gone through all the hoops to put in a valid application.
