Question Australian engaged to a girl in the US. Help please?

Hello Everyone,

I have few concerns about my situation and I want to share them with you:

I am an Australian living in Australia at the moment, I am engaged to a girl that lives in the US and holds the green card with her foreign passport only (her passport can't get a tourist visa to Australia). I want to get married to her and live together in Australia.

I am planning to travel to the states soon to get married to her there. but I'm not sure what to do afterwards? is it to apply for partner visa with her while we are there in the states?

Is that the right way or is there any other better way to follow?

Please help me?

Thanks,
Humam

From what you said getting married would NOT be a wise move. The requirementsfor a partner visa are very stringent. I suggest you look at a Prospective Marriage visa, which is more suitable for those who have not been in a long time joint finance relationship.
You do not mention your fiancee's nationality that also may complicate the situation for you.

There are no such passports.

Thanks Aussiesteve for your reply!

She holds an Iraqi passport. She will be getting her American citizenship in late 2017.

Also, if she gets granted the PMV and it lasts for 9 months, would she be able to apply for the partner visa 820 before the PMV expiry date of 9 months?

Thanks

Wrussel, well she's Iraqi and I think it's pretty hard for such passport to get a normal visa to Australia.

From memory the other day I looked a reasonable number of Iraqi's got visitor visas last year. But I certainly would only do that via a Registered Migration Agent like Wrussel is.

A bit of history may help us see what options you have. Like have you actually met her yet, have you lived together and how long type stuff.
