Sorry I should have been clearer.

My original (& current) substantive visa is the WHV, which allows you to work but for no longer than 6 months for one employer. When I queried this for my situation they clarified that I was permitted to work for myself as a sole trader for the 12 month period. I work as a contractor to a UK based firm.

Looking now at the BVA confirmation letter, which came instantly following my application for the 820, I can see it confirms that I have full permission to work from the date that visa takes over my WHV.
