NOIM on visa 600 with a no 8503

hi i have lodged a noim as my tourist vusa was a 3 year multiple entry and we have been together for a year now. planning to marry in august here in australia. 2 months till our wedding date for noim. can you tell me best for which visa to apply 820 or 309? i prefer the quicker and easier one... if i apply offshore can i come and stay with my partner on my tourist visa or better to wait and apply for 820? currnt visa 600 expires on march 2017. thanks

309 and 820 are all the same, except 309 you apply offshore and 820 you apply onshore. Both of them are equal in term of requirements.

If you are not married yet, 300 is still an option. PMV is relatively easier and maybe quicker.

If you apply for an 820, you would be eligible to apply for Medicare and you would be granted a bridging visa with unrestricted work rights that would take effect when your 600 expires.

Yes, but if you were to wed you would have to withdraw it and proceed with a 309.

A definitive answer to the issue of processing times is not possible - for example some 820 (onshore) partner applications are now being allocated to overseas offices for processing and there are several other factors that influence processing times; some of them seemingly random.

May I suggest that you consult a registered migration agent for advice about your best strategy?

If you have the evidence for the onshore 820 partner visa - that has the most benefits (medicare and work right after March 2016).

If not go offshore apply PMV and return on current visitor visa - but you can not marry until PMV is decided maybe 9 moths time. You will need to go offshore to get decision and even if refused can still return on current visa if it has not expired.

Make sure you have enough evidence before getting married.

309 is same as 820 but you need be offshore to apply and like PMV offshore for decision. My personal belief is you can get Medicare when you are waiting in Australia on your current Visitor Visa, but many at Medicare do not see it that way.

As with all choices you ca no work till your current Visitor Visa expires. When is your must not enter after date?

Best option as said is onshore 820 if you have the evidence.

expires march 2017. i have never been refused a viss ever in life. i travelled quite a lot but with australia it is horrying as they are pretty strict with immi. i prefer doing it onshore as i will be married by then and can i still marry and go offshore apply for 309 or not?
