Partner Visa - 820

Hi All,

So I met my Vietnamese girlfriend in Brisbane in December 2014. She is an international flight attendant for EVA Air, a Taiwanese airline. We have been together since that time, I have visited Vietnam on a number of occasions and she has been here through work many times.

Recently, we applied for a Tourist Visa as previously she was coming through work and the Tourist Visa was granted - there is a no work restriction, max 3 month study and it was granted for a period of 6 months with multiple entries.

We have discussed marriage and the future etc and planning for a big wedding in Vietnam in early 2018. We are thinking of having a smaller celebration here towards the end of this year and signing for marriage in Australia at the same time and then applying for the Partner Visa 820.

This would negate the need to apply for another tourist visa at the end of this one but she would need to leave Australia as she is currently based in Taiwan. Would the DIBP look negatively on this? Particularly with the Bridging Visa as she would always need to leave.

Our thoughts are if we apply for the 820 towards the end of this year, by the time our wedding comes around in Vietnam, it would almost be decision time.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have sufficient evidence to support your partner visa application?

Yes - I believe we do. The only thing we might be short on is evidence of living 'together' and have bills etc in her name, particularly for an extended period as she has always been based in Taiwan and Vietnam.
