Hi,

Im on PMV and when i left aus, i filled in as visitor/temporary entrant on the outgoing passenger card, which i think is incorrect. Think i should have filled in as australian resident temporary leaving aus?

Will it affect my visa if i filled in wrongly?

Please advise.

Thank you!

These cards are basically only used for statistical purposes, so don't worry about it.

Anyway, a PMV it is only a temporary visa, so ticking "temporary entrant" is not totally wrong.

The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is a temporary visa for nine months

Things have changed. These cards now play an important role and can cause people to get visas refused or cancelled and get slapped with PIC 4020 (provide a bogus document or information) and 3 year bans. An innocent mistake or omission (especially character issues, even minor ones) can now come back to haunt you big time later on.Be warned !

Passenger Cards are considered an important immigration document by the Department. They are all keep and the information provided goes onto your file. Filling out the wrong information, whether deliberately or not, can be held against you at a later date. Section 102 of the Migration Act is as follows:

Section 102 Passenger Cards to be correct.

A non citizen must fill in his or her passenger card in such a way that:
(a) all questions on it are answered; and
(b) no incorrect answers are given.

If incorrect answers are given then you could come under the visa cancellation powers of Section 109 of the migration act.

In your case the PMV is only a temporary visa you answered correctly. For those of you who answered that it wasn't important beware. It is and it covered in the Migration Act so is Australian Law.

Would I have been wrong to put 9 months down for intended stay because I was entering for the first time on my PMV? I obviously intend to stay indefinitely with my partner as long as I continue to be granted valid visas (820/801, etc), but I didn't want to put a number that exceeds what's allotted with the PMV.

The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to know what to put on it next time I enter on the PMV (we're going on holiday and not marrying until we get back). Would the intended length of stay be however many months I have remaining on my PMV? Thanks!

There could be one less bit of paperwork standing between you and your flight – or even better, your airport lounge – from next year, as the Federal Government looks to ditch those green departure forms for outbound travellers

The cards would be put out to pasture in favour of automated outbound SmartGate passport readers, which have already been installed at most international airports around the country.

The review of outgoing passenger cards (OPCs) "is anticipated to be completed by early 2016", a spokesperson for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection told Australian Business Traveller.

Wow! This is a great topic! I didn't know that these cards could have such an impact. I remember the first time I had to fill one out, my fiance (an Aussie citizen) asked the lady who collected them in Perth why they needed them. She stated it was just for statistics and not important. So glad to know that they ARE important!

Ok, so when I leave next week to bring my boys back here next month, we're all on ETA's until I lodge the 189 visa application in July/August. So I put temporary stay and 3 months? That is what I have been putting on the outbound cards, and haven't had any issues. Just hope I've been doing them correctly!

Hi All,

Thank you so much for the replies! i was so worried on the flight. Wanted to go back to see if they can take out my card from the box, but scare i might just missed my flight!

I have ticked "Migrant" when i entered aus (my 1st entry after PMV granted).
I believe only after im granted the partner visa 820 then i will need to tick "aus resident temporary leaving aus".

Still, thanks all for the help! =D

I would not panic about it. Being Australian Resident can be confusing. For example; a person on a tourist visa can be classed as "Australian resident for tax purposes" in some cases. Many can say they thought they were as the ATO say they are.. ;)

I can't imagine a big deal being made about it. The ABS say that about 10% of these cards are wrong anyway.

Not sure what the ABS will do for statistics once the cards are abolished.
