putting together application. still waiting for police checks

Hi all,

We are almost done putting together our application for 820 visa to be lodged onshore. It has been tedious but not overly complicated. Our story is genuine and we have been in a relationship with evidence for 2 years. The sponsors student visa expires on the 12th of January 2013. She arrived on the 25th of dec 2011. We were planning to have the application submited before christmas. She needs to be put on a bridging visa straight away because her visa expires in january. secondly, she didnt need to apply for australia police check because she hasnt been here for a year. So that was good. However, we are still waiting for police check for usa. probably wont get here before february. and the brazil police check wont get here before christmas either. is this acceptable? because I wont to lodge before the 20th of dec. and on my cover letter I wrote... "The only things missing from this application is the Brazil police check, and USA police check for the applicant. Both of these documents have taken a lot longer than anticipated to arrive. We can expect them to arrive within the next month. We dont expect this to be an issue as we were informed on the phone that this is acceptable as the waiting time for this visa may be up to 12 months.'' would that be a good thing to write? or should i wait till the brazil police check arrives, which means she stays more than a year so will need aus police check aswell. im thinking it would be safe to submit it asap without police checks as 1-2 months of them waiting for 2 documents cant be a big deal if they are telling me im gonna have to wait 10-12 months. but what if im lucky and they decide to process it 2 weeks after i submit? and the police checks are missing? what to do... help please.thanks.
and have a good festive season!

Usually a case officer will give you 28 days extension AFTER the request date of police checks if there is a valid reason for delay. It seems to me you have a valid reason and it is outside your control.

Boboa is right, but not only the 28 days, you don't HAVE to submit police checks until they actually ask for them and that will take some time almost for certain! Then add the 28 days to that, since you have yet to apply. It is nice to front load your application but it would cost you almost a $1000 to wait and then you would be waiting on the Australian police checks too.
