Happily Ever After is ours!!!!

With the wedding just 11 days away, I have EXCELLENT news - my fiancÚ's visa was approved 3am Saturday (local Aus time) and he arrived 10am Sunday (local Aus time). Crazy, huh!!! He was just getting to work Friday when he received the notification - promptly resigned (his employer was amazing and knew we were pushing the line, said to just GO!), booked his ticket, packed his bags, and got on a plane!

It's been a series of interesting stuff-ups on behalf of the CO's we had (2), and ironically, in the end, the CO who approved the visa was the one who hand-balled it to another CO after it had sat unopened on her desk, for three months. Absurd, huh!

Anyway... no need to cancel the wedding! It's going ahead next week (OH GAWD!!!) And.. suffice to say, we are deliriously happy, pinching ourselves that we are finally, permanently, together. No more heart-breaking airport returns, ever.

This is our happily ever after!
Happy New Year to all, and may your visa be granted soon x

Firstly.. Congratulations... I can imagine your excitement!

Secondly... How do you know it was "sitting on her desk" for 3 months?
How did you know you had 2 case officers?
Did they tell you all this?

Were going through this process at the moment thats all...

Regards

Hey Chrisb - Sitting on her desk for 3 months - because when my fiancÚ contacted her after 3 months to find out what was happening, she said she hadn't looked at it and was handing it over to "another case officer who could deal with it in a more timely manner". Charming, hey!

I can only encourage you to be proactive about contacting the CO, emailing, asking for updates, send questions. Did you send all your information with your application? (medicals, police checks)... Check out VEVO and if you have a case file number (which you will, if your application has been accepted) you can log in and check the status of your file - something our CO neglected to tell us. Other than that, patience and persistence.

On Christmas eve here, I called the Aus Immigration number, and they informed me that by going over 5 months, they had taken too long (US is a low risk country) ... from there I contacted Kim Beazley (Aus Ambassador to the US) via his twitter account. The embassy was closed until the 27th (US time), when he contacted them, with no positive news, but they flagged his account... I heard back from KB via twitter, where they suggested we call the Aus Immi number, which we had, and I pointed out the visa type and that our CO was not available until a few days before the wedding.... and THEN my fiancÚ heard from the embassy on the 28th(US), where they referenced my twitter message. His visa was approved on the 29th (AUS) and he arrived here on the 30th (Aus). It was a rapid response in the end, courtesy of some people finally doing their job.

Not sure if that helps, but the immigration process certainly needs more transparency, because it is fricking horrible, stressful, and filled with dashed hopes, daily. I wish you strength and a positive outcome, soon!
x
