Medicare 461

Hi guys

My husband is a New Zealand citizen living here in Australia since 10 years
We got married 6 months ago and I have applied for 461
I'm now on bridging visa E with a privat health insurance
My question is can I apply for Medicare wile I'm waiting for my 461 to grant ? Thanks

I think not exactly BUT check the New Zealand reciprocal agreement, being married you may now be entitled to same as he is if included to him in NZ medical cover.

But I have no idea for sure.

461 holders are not eligible for Medicare. You will need private health insurance.

Having health insurance is on the check list for the visa but all depends if you have a reciprocal agreement between your country and Australia. If not then the case officer will usually ask for the policy.

If there is no condition on the grant about maintaining health insurance you could cancel it after the grant but if you are in an accident it could cost you alot more.
