So just to be sure, if I leave before I apply for PR, I can:

1. Still apply and get PR
2. Enter/leave Australia for the first five years without restrictions
3. Enter Australia with RRV if necessary after that
4. If I can't apply for RRV I will still be able to come to Australia on a tourist visa
5. If my RRV application at any point and I want to return to Australia, I can reapply for a spouse visa (this is likely to be very far away if it ever happens)

Yes that is correct. Just keep in mind legislation can change between now and 5 years time. Probably not likely but always a possibility.

Unfortunately will immigration we just need to base it on what it is currently and hope things don't change in the meantime.

1. From what I've read, you will need to satisfy DIBP that you intend to live in Australia. So getting the PR visa shouldn't be assumed.

To be fair, I did think I had read something like this before.

If I were refused PR, would I then be able to travel back to Australia on tourist visas without issues? If I decided in the future that I wanted to return to Australia and apply for a partner visa again, would it go against me?

I'm not sure how likely we are to move back to Australia once we've left, but I want to make sure it won't be impossible, just in case.
