It would seem that form 80 is now required for all SC 820 applications

http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/_pdf...-checklist.pdf From the checklist:

Character documents 
Evidence that you meet the Character and Penal Clearance Requirement (original
documentation must be provided.
See: Character and Penal Clearance Requirements
A completed Form 80 must be provided.
See: Form 80 Personal particulars for character assessment http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/80.pdf

I don't know about offshore applications yet but I am going to research it further. Since the form 80 used to be only from high risk countries this is a significant change.

It is only maybe required for the SC 309

http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/_pdf...-checklist.pdf

Character documents 
Include any results of character checks.
See: Character Requirement - Applications & Forms Character and Penal Clearance Requirements
A completed form 80 (only if requested by the department).
See: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/80.pdf Form 80 Personal particulars for character assessment

It is not the same is on the 309 checklist!!! It has only if requested by the department!

So for all new SC 309 applications IMHO you had better do the form 80 and keep it in reserve so you have it ready if they ask for it

If you are applying for an SC 309 you should check the check list at your local embassy as many countries ask for the form 80 upfront, that is true of all the high risk countries.

Thank you for providing this. I was going to remark it somewhere as it became evident from my acknowledgement that they don't even really consider asking, they just ask as soon as you apply. I got it in a standard "thanks for applying, here's some basic info" format so even if they hadn't changed the checklist there would have been no point applying without it really.

I wonder when they changed this checklist. I swear I was THIS close to re-downloading every form we had used on the day of application just to make sure, but I was too stressed and nervous to do it.

Well if I had known that it was a "must provide" I would have noticed the lack of it when you were checking your submission check list. Now I know that you must supply a form 80 when applying for the SC 820, I will advise people accordingly. It just goes to show how important it is to keep up to date with the changes and know about the subtle differences with the different visas, the 309 and 820 are almost identical applications but have these significant differences in them!

Oh yeah seriously it probably wasn't even on the checklist yet back then (that whole week ago or so ). I just keep expecting them to announce these form changes on the news or something (just like I expect DIAC to be open and emailing me whenever I am awake ) but they just go *poof* new form out of nowhere it seems?

Thanks for all your help by the way

You are more than welcome. I don't envy you having to do that form 80 though, as I said I was originally thinking of just submitting one myself, just in case but when I read it I couldn't believe it I am hoping they don't decide to ask for one down the track. Good luck with doing it

Thank you hah it will be a loooong weekend. I can't believe I have to type out all the names, birthdays and places of birth of all my step-siblings again. I don't even remember their birthdays (we were all adults when our parents got married) but I sure will after this

Hi All
I had actually questioned this form 80 some months ago, and it seems that all applications have to have the form 80 attached to it, especially family spouse/partner visa,s. I had actually being asked to fill one out way back in January 2012 and then asked to refill one out in April as the form had a few more questions attached to it, plus my application had gone in after April 1st 2012 after they had re vamped it. personally i would fill one out just to save time, after all there is nothing that bad on the form plus what is asked is usually what you have written down in the numerous forms you had to fill out for the visa you applied for anyhow. I think this form 80 is just an overall view on all other forms you have had to fill out, it saves the DIAC time browsing through all the initial forms. Thats my view anyhow lol i could be wrong......
