Relationship registration - benefits besides immigration purpose

Hi all,

Me and my partner got our visa grant a few days ago and the defacto relationship registration helped us to successfully waive the 12-month living together requirement.
However I was just wondering what other benefits it gives us? Are there tax benefits?

According to the NSW website:

What is the effect of registration?

Couples in registered relationships will be recognised as “de facto partners” for the purposes of most legislation in NSW.

This will mean people in registered relationships will be able to rely on their certificate of registration to access various entitlements, services and records under NSW law. Registered couples may be able to access more easily, key benefits and rights under NSW legislation. Additionally, in situations that are not necessarily governed by legislation, service providers may choose to accept registration of a relationship as proof of the legitimacy of that relationship.

Couples in registered relationships will also be subject to certain obligations or restrictions under NSW law.

LOL they make it sound great, I am married to my partner not allowed to work on an ETA but he can't claim me as a dependent for tax purposes as they have changed the tax laws to make married couples both work, which in our case I am not allowed to.....

I was wondering the exact same thing!
I think it is easier sometimes if you want to put your partner down as a beneficiary or mention him in your will.
Also I think it makes it easier if one of you is in hospital, because they are not allowed to give information to anyone but the next of kin and that is somewhat hard to prove if you are not married/have your relationship registered.
