Will ordering PCC before it's asked by CO help speed up the process?

Hi,

Since getting the police certificate from some of the countries I have been to would take more than two months, is it possible to apply for the certificate before the case officer asks for it to save time? Is that acceptable?

And after CO asks you to submit these files, will there be a deadline in which you have to submit them or the time limit is open?

Appreciate your valuable feedback.

Certainly you can and it can speed up the process but police checks are good for one year, so if your application is going to take longer than a year you will have to get them done again during the application process.

True...but actually I have only been to three countries. but unfortunately two of them are third-world countries and very bureaucratic.

By the way, I realized one of those countries I left in 1st April 2003 which means it has been 9 years and 11 months since I left that country. Will this mean I should ignore getting report from this country? That would make my life much easier if doable.

When is a police certificate required?

If you are over the age of 16 and have lived in any of the countries listed in this document for a total of one year or more in the last 10 years, you must get a police certificate from that country.
The certificate must cover the period of time from the issue date back to the age you ceased to be a minor or must cover the whole time you were in a country.
For immigration purposes a police certificate is deemed to be valid for 12 months from the issue date.

What if a certificate is not available?

In some countries, police certificates are only available to citizens or to residents. Where this applies, it will be indicated in the country information. If a category, such as non-citizen or non-resident, is not listed in the country information, it generally means a certificate cannot be obtained.
If a certificate cannot be obtained, or if a country is not listed in this guide, please contact your nearest DIAC office for further information.

Great post, Ausfil. I was thinking it was everywhere you've ever lived.... only the last 10 years will be easier for folks. I learned something today - thanks!

Of course, that doesn't help Ahmed since it's less than 10 years for him.

Thanks for the clarification ausfil. There is only one month left for me to complete the ten year period from staying outside that particular country. i actually got my invitation on 18 feb so I still have more than a month to start the visa application, so do you think i can wait for this month to end and then apply? It is just too much hassle to try to get something from a corrupted country that u no longer have any ties with it.

Hi Ahmed, yes it does save time if you can apply your police cert before hand. In fact the CO will appreciate it even more.

And in the event that you're requested for a police cert by the CO, you're given 28 days to submit the cert. If your cert isn't going to meet the deadline, you email your CO and ask for an extension, while giving valid reasons.

In fact this is exactly what I'm doing and will be doing. I skipped out doing the police cert for China because one of the cities I worked in 5 years ago is still very backward and I was pretty sure they wouldn't issue the police cert. I lodged my visa with a cover note informing DIAC that getting a police cert will be hard. 8 months later I heard from my CO telling me that I need to get a cert from there after all and have 28 days to do it. My 28 days is coming up soon and I'll be informing my CO that my cert isn't going to come in time, what with China's processing speed and all :)
