Hi everyone, I need some advice if I can get it please...

I am currently on a bridging visa a waiting for my 820 defacto visa to be approved, I was previously on a work and holiday visa which means my bridging visa carried over my 6 month work limit.

Last Tuesday I went to the Sydney office and handed in a form 1005 to have the work restriction removed due to financial hardship. I handed it to the information guy after confirming my details with someone behind the counter and the info guy asked me if I had an envelope, I apologized and said no I didn't know I needed one, and he didn't seem very happy about that. He took my application and put it behind the counter. I called immi today to see if they had received my app in the correct dept and if it was being processed and the lady told me they hadn't even gotten it yet.

The reason why this is freaking me out is because my work limit with my current employer is up on the 22nd of March and I really don't want to leave my job. They already said they would like to keep me on.

What should I do in this situation? Should I send in another app and hope it gets processes faster? Or would that mess things up? I am just really afraid that my app is still sitting behind that desk not going anywhere and I will have to leave my job because of it...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Yeah this is why I personally opt for mailing forms when I can - handing them in can feel more secure, you can see they actually received it and it's more peace of mind for you; but if you mailed it and tracked the mail you have written evidence they received it no matter what.

Send it again - hell send it twice. And good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Hi another tip I can share is, if you're submitting any other kinds of applications again, use email. I used email to apply for my BVB and also 1005. Both applications were approved without a hitch. I send my email to the temporary partner visa email provided in the visa acknowledgement letter :)

The only time I went to submit anything in person was for my 820 application. But for anything and everything else, I used mail (Auspost's prepaid envelope works greatttt! $5+ with tracking and next day delivery) and email (scanned my application and supporting documents and attached to the email).

Hi Lauraleigh81, I thought I'd share this info with you as it might set your mind at ease.

I was on a WHV and moved to a bridging visa A on February 18th, when my WHV expired. I called the department of immigration about five days ago to ask about how to check my work rights, and I was told that as of November 26th 2012, there were NO work or study restrictions on a BVA. The 6-month restriction on the WHV does not carry over to the BVA, and the man I spoke to assured me there was no need to check work entitlements.

Did they tell you specifically that your BVA carries restrictions? I remember reading that when we're on a substantive visa and are granted a BVA, the same rights from the visa carry over. I originally thought that I would have the same six-month restriction until I called them to find out.

Maybe this helps! *crosses fingers*

Thanks for the replays everyone!! I redid my form 1005 and just stated the rule change that came into effect on November 24th for bridging visas, and I am sending my app through the mail this time!! So hopefully it gets approved before my work limit is up...

And Kantata, I unfortunately applied for my 820 before nov 24th, which means that my BVA still carries the resections of my previous visa :(. But I have read success stories of other members turning in The 1005 and stating the rule change as a reason to replace their visas, so hopefully this works for me!!! Thanks so much for your reply!! :)

Woooo hoooo!!! Great news guys!! I got an email from DIAC today saying my work limit was removed!!! I am so happy!! Such a huge stress from my shoulders. I am not sure if it was the form I dropped off last week, or the one I sent in yesterday. If it was the one yesterday them that was super fast!!! Thanks to everyone for your help!!!
