Smile 487 Approved

Hi Mark,

First of all, thanks for providing me advice last time and secondly, I would like to let you know that on Friday, DIAC granted me my 487 visa. I am quite excited and had a good relaxing weekend after a long time.

I got an enquiry if you can help me please: My wife is currently with me in AUS and she is on bridging visa A as I also applied for subclass 885 when she arrived. Now, my question is as my 487 has been approved, is it complusory that I have to add her as well as a subsequent entrant and will she have the same obligations like me e.g. Do she have to complete 2 yrs living in regional area?

Hi -

Congrats on your visa grant!

It is not required to do so, but I expect you would want to add her to your visa - it's up to you - if she has another visa she is waiting for approval on, there is no requirement to add her to yours. Since the 487 is no longer accepting applications, your wife would use an application for a 489 visa to become part of your visa. Here's a link:

Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 487)

Re: obligations, she would have the same obligations as you re: living, however she would not be required to work.

Hope this helps -

Best,

Mark Northam

Hi Marks,

Thanks for your advice. So, is that mean I can add her anytime in future till date of expiry of my visa.

Regards,

Hi -

Not necessarily - depends on what you want to do down the road - ie, what future visas you plan on applying for - suggest you carefully review all requirements of those in order to make the best decision.

Best,

Mark Northam
