How strong is my case for subcalss 189?

Hello all,

How is everybody today? I have been lurking this forum for quite a while now and find it very useful. The amount of experience at one place is simply amazing.

I have convinced myself that Australia is going to be my next destination for career growth and decent quality of life. At present, I am in NZ on Work Visa and confident that I would be granted PR after Work visa ends. But I might not stay in NZ for that long, and have started doing my homework for a OZ PR.

So, my case seems pretty positive for a subclass 189, as I have-

1. ICT skills in high demand in OZ (confirmed by friends there and amount of open positions on LinkedIn and Seek)
2. Decent English language capability (confident of scoring 7 or above in IELTS)
3. Age (less than 40)
4. Relevant Qualifications and Work Experience (10+ years with recognized/blue-chip MNCs)

Problem (potential) area-

1. Chronic Medical Conditions (Diabetes, Hypertension and some renal damage due to Diabetes). All well-managed and under good control.

I had all the medical conditions except renal problem, when I was granted NZ Work Visa. Of course, case was referred to a MA (Medical Assessor), but there were no major delays due to this. It was pretty much a smooth process.

I can get 457, but do not prefer it as Medical Insurance is a headache and cost of medicines can be significant, without Public Healthcare (Medicare) for my condition. Also would prefer Medicare over insurance for my family members (OH and a kid).

So my question to forum members is, how strong my case is for a subclass 189? I think with IELTS, Medicals and Visa fees it will cost AUD4500 or so, and I need some level of assurance before I put commitment into it.

Thanks for reading and all inputs welcome!

Thanks,
Rapid7

tl;dr: OP has chronic medical conditions which he thinks might pose problem for subclass 189. Invites everybody's inputs.

I think no one can certainly answer the question about your health. As far as I know, they won't reject your application outright, most probably your case will be referred to their panel of medical consultants who will then recommend to approve or reject your case.

But if you get NZ PR I thought it is possible for you to come and work in NZ??

Yes, it is not an easy question. I do not expect people to give me a conclusive answer. It is just that, I am hoping replies from people who might have had similar situation (chronic medical conditions which might get worse if not controlled).

NZ PR does not allow Work rights in Oz. NZ Citizenship does, which would take around 5 years. :)
