Hello!
Ive got a question in regards to emails, skype chats and facebook messages.
What do you do if you want to include emails in your application between you and your parter but its got sexual comments in it as well. Can you just black out the sentences that are innapropriate or do they not care if its left there for them too see?
A bit of "colourful" language is ok, but too much and it can be a turn-off. DIAC certainly understands that couples who are part for periods of time can and will discuss all aspects of their relationship.
Hi there, how much evidence are you planning to submit? I had 'colourful language' in my chat history too during our 4 year courtship, but because i couldn't possibly be printing 4 years worth of chat logs, I selectively picked out one page of chat history that represented each month of contact I had with my partner.
Thanks for the reply! When you print messages on facebook and skype sometimes they can show quite a few messages on the thread. If there were some that you didnt want to broadcast would it be alright to put a sticker over them, so thas its there option to read if they want and that way doesnt lok suspicious hiding it?
Interesting idea, however I would not recommend it as most DIAC posts scan all documents in an auto-feeding scanner upon receipt - any sort of sticky note or sticker could end up not working as expected, since review is generally done via online images of scanned documents.
We adjusted our screenshots so as not to include that kind of stuff. Obviously when you're apart, it happens. DIAC doesn't need to see it, though - we thought so anyway, and we presume they agree! There was plenty of chatlog around it that we could show, we still had a lot of screenshots and none of it included any of that. Most of our conversations about the nature of our relationship (from feelings to groceries) did not include any dirty talk
I'll have to go through our chat/skype history as well and i have a question:
- I noticed you are saying: screenshots of chat. So we just do the screenshot of a bit we want to show and print it? Dont need for all long history? Thats really good
- What about skype? We usually just videochat, so we dont write much, but talk a lot. Is it okay to do a screenshot of skype showing history and lenght of video calls?
Yes, that's what we did - screenshots of the whole entire screen, save it as an image file, print it. We felt this was the most solid way to show our communication history overtime without going overboard and without raising questions as to how legitimate the material is/whether it could have easily been altered.
Yep we just showed the length of the calls that's pretty good evidence on its own. Showing daily long conversations (when it was possible) is a good thing! That is the best Skype can do, since I don't think the video files are even saved, and DIAC won't let us send in DVDs, USBs etc.
Good luck
