Kiwis can work here but may never become Citizens

Does evryone in this formum know that if you came here on a NZ passport do you realize that if you arrived after Jan 2001, you will never get Citizenship probably?.

No PR Visa or Citizenship means ZERO financial help by way of unemployment or sickness benefit ever!! should you need it.

No help if unemployed means no can pay rent, no food and school fees.

Unless Rudd reverses Howards appication of the Immigration act towards the Social Securtity act be reversed like the very unfair I.R (work choices) law.

OZ now has significant trade lined up thanks in part to NZ worth $80B... so I am told. So any cost to Australia is not significant anyway.

Mr Rudd has proven to be the best PM OZ has seen for over a decade, but if he wont help the Kiwi who will??..

Welcome to the forum. You might want to have a look at the citizenship website:

Australia and New Zealand social security arrangements

Supplementary changes made by Australia

On 26 February 2001, the Australian Government also announced other changes affecting New Zealand citizens in Australia. As from this date, New Zealand citizens are required to apply for and be granted permanent residence in Australia if they wish to access certain social security payments, obtain Australian citizenship or sponsor their family members for permanent residence.

Care to explain why you think Rudd has been the PM Australia has had for a decade?

Further to the advice offered by Mike, tripping across the Tasman to work/live is a two way proccess though admittedly far more Kiwis head this way.

I'm not aware of what the NZ reequirements are for Aussies re citizenship over there nor really interested but I can imagine any good government needs to exercise some control over the PR/Citizenship process, it being a PR application and residency for other immigrants to qualify and would seem to be the simplest approach re admin of same for Kiwis as quite separate from people coming across in the first instance to work.

Krudd may be popular with some but he is hardly of proven PM Quality and in fact he seems to be either travelling and/or making announcements on subjects that would normally come from the relevant ministers and yet has no idea of what all his grandiose plans are going to do nor cost and in fact is stepping back from quite a few and now there is leakage of possible taxation increases to be announced in the budget.

When people start to realise that all his spending promises/cash grants have to at some stage be paid for with interest, his popularity could drop rapidly and meanwhile he has garnered a label of being the 'Pig of Politics'

But if you like him that's fine.
