RRV question

Hello all,

I live in the States and I have an Aus PR which is expired on Jun 30, 2013. I have come to Australia 3 times since i got the visa. Each time is about 1 week. In january 2013, i applied for the RRV in washington, USA and a month later a case officer call me to ask me why I want a RRV. I told her that my father's health is not good. He had cancer, stroke and other sickness therefore I want to extend my visa for 1 more year until 2014. Then my sister will take care of him while i relocate to Sydney.

I have not have any subtantial ties to Aus except the bank account with Common Wealth bank. Until now I have not heard anything from the immigration yet. In the worst case, if they don't grant me 1 year visa extension, am I eligible for 3 month extenstion? Please advise.
