My husband and I have been debating this too. We are at almost 6 months with no contact. I emailed the general line once a couple months ago just to confirm all the paperwork was received to the right place, but I got a pretty general response. Now to find a good reason to contact them.....

I have been wondering as well but I'm too scared to test it out! I called once to make sure they received my medical (they had) and I probably won't contact them again until about 5mo waiting time. I say at 5mo because we have to leave in September to find schools for my kids among many other things, mainly jobs here need to be notified as well.

We were not afraid to keep contacting them. After 5 months they were more responsive. The squeaky wheel gets the oil

I'm gonna try and leave them alone for another while. I'm just worried, 'cause like I said in my original post, a couple that has been together shorter and applied after us at the same office already had their answer in a matter of weeks - we still don't have a CO. I don't understand what's more difficult about our case to not move us along at all. It's a little worrying.

I definitely don't want to contact them this month - I know it sounds stupid but my birthday is coming up late April and if they're just waiting to reject us I'd like to find out after my birthday, not just before. I don't even know where that's coming from because I hate celebrating my birthday

I'm just terrified I suppose. Although I'd love for them to take a look at our case or at least assign us someone, at the same rate I don't want them to feel rushed in any way and reject us if they would have given us more of a thorough look if they'd taken their time.

CAN'T WIN!

We have been waiting 18 months and have never been longer than 2 months without contact with our CO. Our last contact a month ago was actually quite nasty telling us to leave them alone until it's done.

I believe it all depends on your CO how these people are ect.. I do believe one thing though these CO,s are bombarded with people asking them questions, and they must get to a point were they honestly do get fed up of the abundance of emails they receive. It doesn't excuse a CO being nasty and rude like someuser had experienced, I do find through the forum on people's comments that the more they contact the CO the more frustrated they become. Co,s will contact you in time if and when they need additional paper work. I went through an agency and to be quite honest I do believe I had one of the most ignorant laziest CO,s. I as fortunate to have my CO changed with a wonderful man who was kind and considerate and truly understood that people's lives are on hold, my agency were sent emails from him apologising for the time it had took and for the inconvenience, he granted my visa within a few days, I was blessed with this guy.
I always say its a shame the DIAC don't become members on these forums just to see how some CO work and there ignorance towards to people, they would defiantly get a true light on how peoples lives are on freeze due to the working practice within the embassy's.
Louiseb ( just woken up and going for the coffee lol)

Hmm in my case I was always sensitive not to call DIAC to 'check up' on my application because I felt they had thousands of calls each day and mountains of files to look at the last thing they want is another "how is my application going?" question.

The only time I contacted my CO was when my CO contacted me! I didn't even know I had a CO and had no idea when I was assigned one. My CO said all she needed was one more document and I spent a good bit of money getting that but once I sent it to her she approved my visa on the same day.
