Hello! I'm a russian doctor with 6 years of practice (plus postgraduate study). now i'm looking forward to opportunities of being employed in Australia.
i would be grateful to you if you could answer some questions to me
1) if there is any need of my profession? do i have chances to find a job?
2) will i have to confirm my diploma and take postgraduate study once more?
where can i find more information about it..

Welcome to the forum bond80 and yes Australia like most countries I imagine is always welcoming doctors and other medical professionals to look at employment in Australia, particularly in rural areas and smaller coastal communities for they are the types of locations where shortages always exist and no doubt will even with grim economic conditions.

Australia already has doctors of many countries emigrating to Australia and working in both capital and regional cities as well as in the smaller towns.

The government/authorities do require that medical professionals trained overseas are assessed re standard of training and proficiency.

There is a special section under Workers on the immigration site - Department of Immigration & Citizenship and if you follow the links for doctors you'll finally get through to DoctorConnect - Checklist for overseas trained doctors which outlines the processes for being assessed, immigration and the registration with the medical board of the state in which you choose to work.

It is an extensive process but then it should be thorough if you want the public to have faith in doctors and others with whom they will rely on for health/life.

You'll see from the doctorconnect site there is also sections pertaining to recruitment and no doubt there are people working in the area of recruitment and you may be able to find various organisations through the links that will assist with the processes.

Anyway, have a read of the immi site information and if you think you can be helped more here, please come back - and yes, if you pursue coming to Australia please let us know how the process goes for you - and there'll be no difficulty finding some nice peaceful seaside villages for GP type work if that appeals.

Good luck.

I'll move the thread to the Visas and Immigration section.
