I'm from Seattle and I live in Melbourne now. I have no idea if it "went through' as you say, I'm still waiting for my visa to be granted. All I know is that I am 48yrs old and I can't even remember every job I've ever had, in my 20's alone there were probably a hundred of them. Lol

Hi Everyone,

I've only been here in Australia for 4 months, do I still need to get an AFP clearance for my 820 application; based on my interpretation of guideline below, it should not be necessary? As of the moment, I only have an overseas police clearance (NBI) from Philippines.

Meeting the character requirement for temporary and permanent migration

For the Australian Government to determine whether you are of good character, you may be asked to provide police certificates for each country you have lived in for 12 months or more over the last ten (10) years since turning 16.

If you are applying outside Australia, you do not have to provide this information when you apply. You will be advised when it is required.

If you are applying in Australia, you should provide this information with your application.

If they ask you to get it, I would. They didn't ask me to get mine until I'd already lived here for a year.

IMHO, I don't think you would need an AFP, wishful. (If anyone has had a similar experience of residing in Aus for less than 12 months at the time of applying for an 820, please do chime in...)

I was living here 3 months when I applied. I didn't do the AFP check until they asked for it, which was almost a year after I applied. I didn't come here on a PMV either, so that may be different.

My wife was here almost 9 months on her PMV but in 2010 she was her for 3 month as a tourist. Her CO asked for AFP clearance.
If your total time in Australia is only 4 months you shouldn't need one but it will depend on what your CO wants.

Thanks guys, will just wait for them to request one. Hoping to submit our application by next week.
