Can I apply for a visa now?

I am currently in Australia on a tourist visa (This visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to 3 months at a time - the visa is valid for 12 months). I want to apply for a de facto visa onshore. I am going back to Europe in 2 months to go to a wedding etc. and will be back in Australia in August.
Can I apply for the de facto visa now? Or am I not allowed to leave Australia whilst my application is getting processed? Do I get a bridging visa straight away or will my tourist visa have to run out first?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks, Rikke

If you apply for your partner visa now, you will automatically get a Bridging Visa A (without travel) once your current tourist visa has expired (meaning once it's been 3 months since you last entered the country). Once on a BVA you can apply for a Bridging Visa B which will allow you to travel (normally for up to 3 months).

So it depends a bit on when the 3 months are up. Also, you are not guaranteed that you will get a BVB, this is something you have to apply for after you've gotten the BVA (my experience is that it's relatively easy though, due to long processing times, but I am not an immigration agent).
