820 onshore - how many get rejected??

Have found heaps of info on them taking ages to process but not much on the declines....

Just wondering how many people have had there's rejected and why?? Or if you know anyone??

Probably not a great thing to think about but I guess I shouldn't just assume that no matter how long the wait is it will definitely be given the tick!

Cheers

Rejections can come when someone doesn't pass the health requirement or the character requirement, or when DIAC does not believe the relationship is genuine. We saw one of our regular members' genuine relationship denied a visa earlier this year because DIAC did not believe they had enough in common to be legitimate. The applicant was from a high-risk country and the sponsor was from a different background, religion, etc. I've also heard vast differences in age can lead to a rejection as well. But on the whole, when it comes to healthy applicants in genuine relationships who provide everything DIAC asks, there really aren't that many rejections.

There was also a woman rejected for an 820 recently because she sent only her application forms and a marriage certificate as proof of her relationship, believing that when they were ready the DIAC would request more info (which is contrary to the information given in the partner booklet and the application forms).

Maybe do a search on the forum for rejected visas or migration review tribunal (where you can appeal rejected visas) advice. It might give you more insight into reasons for rejection.

Yes, she's actually the reason I've started adding "who provide everything DIAC asks for" to that answer. lol! I feel terrible that the person she talked to at DIAC gave her wrong information (if it wasn't just a miscommunication) -- I imagine most people probably do trust what they're told when they go there. But even 5 minutes of research on the visa on her end would probably have made her question what she was being told a little more.
