47SP question #56

Ok. I feel rather silly for this because I must be reading too much into it but the question is, "Are you related to your fiance/partner by blood, marriage or adoption?"

Um...does that mean are you related to each other in a way that you aren't supposed to get married? LOL Or does that mean "are you married to each other?"

I hope I'm making sense on that. It just has a NO and YES checkbox and with the "YES" checkbox it wants evidence. So I presume they're just after our marriage certificate if that is in fact what it means?

Sorry. I've been sitting here for hours today trying to get this application ready so you know how it is...totally fuzzy brain at this point. LOL

Yes, they ARE actually asking if you are related... brother and sister, etc. Creepy, I know, but I guess they have to make sure! "Marriage" means are you related by a marriage other than your own - like step-siblings.

There is another one that is a little confusing in the sense that I feel like I'm answering it twice. #65 asks if your fiance/partner has ever been engaged to be married to a person other than you? Yes and I got married....a few times. Which was answered in detail on question #63. Is that all that is? I have to pretty much answer it twice? LOL

#63: "...been married..."
#65: "...engaged to be married..."

They are not the same question.

They are 'the same' in that if you've done #63, obviously you've done #65.

Not everyone get "engaged" before they get married. There are some people that just get "married" without "engaged".

You might also answer 'no' to #63 but 'yes' to #65.

I disagree. Even if you're standing in Las Vegas and you decide spur of the moment, when you say "Hey, wanna get married?" and your partner says "Yes," between that minute and the five minutes later you are married, you're engaged. People don't get married without asking each other if they want to. That's an engagement. Even if it's on the same day, you were engaged.
