...actually no, I can't update the spreadsheet as I seem to have been deleted from it.

In any case, we applied December 2014, 820 granted October 2016, second stage sent April 2017, granted December 2017. My partner is from the UK, had a criminal record (non-violent crime) from when he was 19 which caused us a lot of grief, but we got there in the end. We've had a son in the time we waited. I couldn't be more relieved today!

Here's hoping the decision is quick for those who remain waiting.

Can anyone advise if its better to wait until a current visa is close to ending before applying for the 801? My partner has 4 months left on a WHV but we are sure if we should lodge the 801 application now or in 3 months or so?

Hi everyone,
I just got my 801 grant e-mail today! Only took about 11 months for me. Maybe they're doing a blitz to get a bunch done before offices close for the holidays? I occasionally uploaded some updated documents since I applied (bank statements, new leases, birthday cards, etc.) but I did not contact the department nor did I have any contact from them prior to receiving the grant notification. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

820 applied: 17 Jan 2015
820 granted: 15 Feb 2016
801 eligible: 17 Jan 2017
801 applied: 17 Jan 2017
801 granted: 21 Dec 2017

Congratulations to you. Your timeline for your 801 visa is good news. Just out of curiosity, what country are you from. I hope this good news is extended to the rest of us. Congratulations. Have a blast.

Big congrats, we had another user on here who got theirs in 9 months, and we've been seeing a lot of grants in 11 months (like yourself!). I was thinking they might be trying to get them done before the holidays as well, as its very unusual (at least in my experience) that DIBP would be issuing grants this close to the holidays (sometimes they'd start to go quiet in late Nov!). Here's hoping it will continue throughout the New Year.

I hope you and your partner continue to have a great life together in Oz!

Hi All

First time logging in but I just had to let you all know that I got my 801 on Wednesday. I have followed this forum for months and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for contributing, especially Mish. It has been a great source of information and comfort for me! Especially knowing I wasn't the only one waiting and waiting and waiting!

I am from Ireland and became eligible for my 801 (2 years after applying for my 820) on 12 January 2017. We sent in my documents in December 2016 (when requested to) and updated a few times this year with photos and things we had signed together.

I never heard from immigration until I got the email on Wednesday afternoon. So 11 months and 8 days for me

Best of luck to everyone!

You are not suppose to submit until 2 months prior at the earliest. They will not look at the application until after your eligibility date and at the moment they seem to be taking around 12 months after eligibility date. Everything is based on the eligibility date so submitting docs early does not help.

Coming on a PMV doesn't matter everything is from the 820 lodgement date.
