Hi,

I would like to know, we applied partner visa onshore (820) on the 28th April 2016, and we got 820 (stage 1) GRANTED on the 12 May 2017.
What is the next step, and can i have more information regarding eligibility date for stage 2 (801)?
Will we get any email when to start uploading the docs?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks heaps

Your eligibility date is your two year anniversary from applying for the 820. So, your eligibility date is 28 April 2018. You are able to apply two months prior to your eligibility date, and anytime after (although it is advisable that you don't wait too long to apply after your eligibility date).

You won't received any e-mail or notification about when you apply, just keep the date above in mind.

Supporting information provided should be documents and evidence that detail the progression of you and your partner's relationship AFTER the grant of the 820. You will both need two new AFP checks and 888's filled out by witnesses of the relationship. Your partner will also need to fill out a sponsor stat dec which is provided on the DIBP website (just google "sponsor stat dec 801" and it should come up)

Hope this helps

Hi there,

Coming up to my 2 years since applied for my 820 (Feb), so am now eligible to apply for my 801. Just wondering what the wait time is at the moment for grant?

Also I understand once you have applied for your 801, you don't have to be in country when it is granted? We may have to go back home to UK for a year or so, before returning to Aus forever.

Cheers!

Yes, you can be anywhere in the world when your 801 is granted. You may want to update DIBP on your trip abroad and/or temp address. I'm not sure the specifics of that, so perhaps someone else can give you a more detailed answer. I DO know however, that if you are going to be in a foreign country for 12+ months on your 820 that you will have to supply a police check for that country (as well as AFP's for your and your partner which should be uploaded at the time of application).

The estimated global processing time given by DIBP is 15-21 months, but that is not an estimate on how long YOUR visa will take to process. It just means that a majority of visas are processed in that time frame. Average wait time based on this forum is around 12-15 months; you can flip through the responses on here or check out the 801 spreadsheet for a better idea

Hi everyone,

Thought I will just update everyone on my journey so far too.

820 applied : 31 June 2015
820 granted: 1 July 2016(Exactly 12 months haha!)
801 applied: 2 July 2017
Waiting for 801 : Total wait time till now : 7 months.

What's the minimum wait time you guys have seen in the recent times for 801 grant?

Hoping it won't take too long as we want to get into buying a property and this whole waiting game and limbo doesn't help.

The estimated time given is 15-21 months. However, reading through this forum most of visa are granted within 12-15 months.

Good work mate! The trend seems to be drifting more towards 12-13 months wait times here. Good stuff!
