We subsequently lodged the 801 on 13 July 2017 and it has been 17 months since date of eligibility for the 801. Realistically can we expect it to arrive any time now, given the timeframe provided by DIBP? We have not been asked to provide any additional documents.

Understand that it has been discussed a few times on this forum, but can I confirm if DIBP has a practice of discriminating on the basis of country of origin in place when processing partner visa applications, which can affect their processing time? For this purpose, my wife is Vietnamese and I hold dual Australian-Vietnamese citizenships.

What other factors in respect of the applicant/sponsor can also affect visa processing time? Further note that my wife is employed full-time by an established, well-known boutique accounting practice and completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Australia. As for myself, I am working for one of the Big 4 consulting firms.

Therefore, on top of our genuine relationship and apart from our country of origin, overall I can say our profiles are pretty 'low-risk', but not sure how the Department will view our application from their perspective.

Any feedback/comments will be much appreciated.
Good afternoon DTN, It is not about discrimination don't worry I'm from a low risk country Belgium (Western Europe) and I' have been waiting 22 months. I first applied for the 820/801 in DECEMBER 14 and the 801 in DECEMBER 16. Can you believe it? I'm also employed as a full time by a big company contracted by immigration... It's been 3 years that I'm a full time employee. DTN it also depend your relation: If you have kids and the length of the relation before you applied play a lot.

The processing time is 18 to 25 months so unfortunately you can only wait:

Processing time:

Hi All,
I have shipped my passport to my home country to be renewed a few weeks ago, my passport has been renewed (the old passport has been cancelled and I have been issued with a new one).
I am now trying to have the passport shipped back but I am having troubles doing that through couriers like DHL due to some restrictions on air cargo from my country (high risk country). Eventually my partner might go there and bring it back with her.
My questions shall I advise the immigration about this situation?
I have an application in process for 801 visa, once I will get the new passport back I will update my details through immi account.
Your assistance in this matter is highly appreciated.
Regards,

Hi Syr,

If you old passport has been cancel and you have a new one, you need to notify the DIAC ASAP from your immi Account or with the form 929 as you could be an unlawful visitor if you leave the country or if you get check by the police. If you don't have the new one yet you can still give them the details of the new passport. Regards.

Hello all, today I finally got my permanent residency granted

Eligible: 06/01/18
Applied: 29/03/18
Granted: 15/10/18

Glad that it didn't take as much time as the global processing times suggest, I was kind of fed up refreshing my email every hour of the day anyway. Thanks to you all and best of luck to the ones waiting

As per previous replies, I have seen people from "high risk"countries got their grant before someone from "low risk"countries. I personally think the origin of the applicant do not play a significant part in officer's decision making, I could be wrong though.

I think there are number of things form parts of decision such as length of relationship, children of the relationship, how well you gathered and presented your evidence and so on. The status of employment however might not be one of them as this visa scheme suppose to rely mainly on your relationship.

I am a CA myself and have been working full-time in the industry for a little while. I did attach the evidence of my education and employment just because there were questions about them on the application.

820 applied: Aug 16
Asked for additional docs: Feb 17
820 Granted: Mar 17
801 applied: Aug 18
801 grant: waiting

Hi Changezi,

Could you tell us a bit more about your relation: Length, kids, houses.... And where do you come from? Thanks

Sorry for the late reply.
No children from our relationship as of yet. I think one of the reasons for the prompt decision on my case was that I and my wife have been in a relationship for the past 7 years and had provided solid proof and documentation from the beginning of our relationship back when I was applying for 820. Moreover, we had provided solid evidences to what we had written on our statutory declaration questions. A letter uploaded to the case officer in pdf to help him/her through the pile of documents we had uploaded on our application. We do own a house together and I am from Pakistan.
Hope this helps 🙂

I have just submitted my 801 application and got to the part to upload documents and found that only 2 of the recommended fields are relevant to my situation. Do I put EVERYTHING under other as thats the only option or am I missing something with this new layout? Ta
