Thanks . The 820 was applied for in May 2014. My husband originally came from a PMV (prospective marriage visa).

Hi everyone!

Since we've been told by yet another lender that a loan won't be approved due to our pending 801 visa situation I've become a bit of a visa monster the last couple of days, scouring this forum and reading through the old 801 waiting group thread and then this current thread.

so I figured I should add us to the wait list!

Initial lodgement: 22/07/2014, onshore, paper and personally delivered in Sydney.
801 eligible: 22/07/2016 (We submitted the 801 app online in July or August 2016)

Same frustrating situation as everyone else - when we applied back in 2014 we thought the 801 would be immediate after the two years. Two years rolled around and they were asking us to provide a load more evidence in order to submit for the 801, which we did straight away. Then after a few months when we had heard absolutely nothing we phoned to be told "oh, you actually have to wait 6 months now" - Thanks for letting us know! So, life goes on hold again. 6 months passes, 8 months passes, still we hear nothing from them. Now we're at about 10 months.
I know it's not as long as a lot of people out there but when you had expected it to be granted months ago and you're restricted from progressing in life it gets incredibly frustrating and tiresome!

NAB and CBA both allow mortgages in the name of the 820 holder and the oz citizen.

Very true! Two banks we have discussed our options with and hold everyday accounts with but their fee's and rates are pretty undesirable in comparison to what else is out there. CBA even admitted this to us in one conversation!

You have to negotiate with them. That is what I do and they usually come very close it.

You either have the choice of going with one with higher rates or waiting. Unfortunately DIBP know that people can get loans being on an 820 as people supply documents.

Otherwise you can try a mortgage broker.

I got my mortgage wth ANZ while I was on my 820, joint application with my partner. They didn't bat an eyelid about my visa status.
Very reasonable rates too.

There are quite a few banks out there that will happily lend to a citizen and a temp resident. We shopped around and decided with ANZ for the low rates but we ha the choice of 4 or 5 in the end.

A bit of background - I lodged a complaint with immigration the end of April 2017 and then got a standard response in early May 2017 (it was the same response as others had received). I lodged an ombudsman complaint afterwards and was advised on Monday that immigration had 21 days to reply. Immigration request today that I withdraw the ombudsman complaint as they already had a case officer working on the case. It sounded like they were working on it from the immigration complaint that I lodged. They said that it required additional departmental resources to deal with 2 complaints. I told them I would withdraw the complaint and they said that it would be finalised today or tomorrow. She would not advise on the phone if it was an approval but said I can tell by her voice lol.

The entire process from the first application took 4 years and 1 month and 1 week (approximately).

Congratulations to you both.
Mish you have been the knowledge source for many of us. Thank you for all what you have done for us so far, I hope you will still active at this forum and continue to provide your valuable answers!

I've known people on 457 temporary visas get mortgages.

Briefly can you please tell me what you said in your complaint letter .
HI Mish,

I am very happy for you. Nevertheless, I already had the feeling that yours will be granted the soonest not later than end of this month. Your complaint helps. I will do the same when mine reaches 12 months.

You deserved it, Mish. I hope you will not close this thread, it is very useful to us.

Hi Mish,
Please send me the address to complain first before the ombudsman.
Thank you.
