How so? You can't do Stage 2 until you hold the temporary visa...

Once you have the 820, you're on the 820 until a decision is made on the 801 unless you get granted a different visa that replaces it. i.e., There is no bridging visa between 820 and 801.
I am so confused. I applied for the 820 and was granted in Jun-2016. My 2 years processing was in Jun-2018 and I then applied for the second stage 801. I thought my 820 expired after two years leaving me on a BVA? Is this not the case?

Hi, V_NorthenBeaches and Martino.

I think that was immigration who calling to you, it the same no ID caller. The questions is about your personal relation, financial and future plan. They speak with me 30 minutes.

Hi Clodard,

I can understand your confusion. I hope my response helps resolve it.
1) You 820 is a valid visa until your 801 is granted. It is just the next step in the process so you are are not a bridging visa and dont need BVB to travel.

2) The 820 doesnt expire it continues until your 801 is granted and that is your PR.

3) I am on 820 and have been for the past 22 months. I can travel out of Australia until they make a decision. You would be able to do the same.

4) You probably never heard back about the BVB as you dont need it.

I understand not being able to see the family and I hope you have a lovely time with them.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I guess I will be spending tomorrow on the phone to Immigration asking them to cancel my BVB application.

What a waste of money but my fault for not paying more attention.

820 only ceases when a decision is made on the 801 or if you replaced it with another visa. There is no bridging visa from 820 to 801 (which is why you didn't actually get a BVA grant notice at Stage 2 eligibility). A simple VEVO check could have told you you're still on the 820. I don't ever make plans to leave the country without verifying my visa conditions in VEVO just in case.

That's the funny thing. I did check VEVO and I got an error message saying that my TRN doesn't exist anymore. This coupled with the fact that there is a BVA attached to my Visa from 2016 when I first applied for my 820 visa all made me think I was on a BVA and that my 820 expired.

That's doesn't sound right. Did you use the actual grant number from the 820 grant letter?

When I used my TRN it comes up as not existing. However, now that I checked using the grant number I can see my Visa as 820.

Thanks for all your help. I am embarrassed at my confusion. I had no problem navigating the PMV and 820 applications but this one got me muddled. 😂

Does the status of the application mean anything at all? Mine says Received: "this application has been received by the department but has not been assigned for assessment. The department may contact the applicant once assessment of your application begins if further information is required."

Does it mean they have only started looking at it when the status changes to Initial Assessment?
