I never supplied an AFP for Stage 1 because I didn't need one. By the time I got to Stage 2, I had spent more than 12 months in Australia in the last 10 years. Because I didn't supply the AFP for Stage 1, I supplied it for Stage 2. But I hadn't supplied any U.S. police checks because those were already supplied in Stage 1.

Thank you for your response. I supplied AFP check for me and my partner and all my police checks from abroad. I think I will just pay dumb this time and follow what the website says. Surely being home affairs department they can spot a criminal record in 2 seconds.

Hi, I’m still waiting on mine too and it’s been 3 yrs of waiting. It’s probably my fault because I didn’t know the counting starts on the 820 application. I would have applied for my 801 sooner.
Applied 820 = jan 17 2016
Approved 820 = march 30 2016
Applied 445 for my son = december 23 2016
Approved 445 = june 15 2017
Applied 801 = june 2018

Status of my application was “initial assessment last night. I checked just now and it’s on “further assessment”. Hopefully I’ll get good news soon.

Can I ask, did they ever ask you for additional information, or like interview you, or did they just grant it when the time came?
No, I never had any requests for additional information or an interview. It came out of nowhere.

I actually didn’t. It’s been on “initial assessment” since I submitted it. And last night, I checked again because it still says to check correspondence. Then I checked the inbox in immi account and I saw the button that says “confirm that you have uploaded necessary documents” or something like that. For some reason I didn’t see that button before 😑. Anyway, hopefully I’ll get approved soon.

Hang on.... so the 820 time is included in the processing time? I thought the (current) 19-26 month wait would be from the date of your 801 application?

Hi sorry. My mistake. The processing time for 801 application starts from 801 eligibility. Which in my case would be 18 Jan 2018.

Thanks so much for your information.

I'm in the process of submitting my 801 application, however theres a few things I want to clarify before I send it off. If I could get any help on this, I'd greatly appreciate it -

* Under Employment, it's asking me to list the jobs I've had since my 820 was granted. I've listed my only job, however it is requiring a "Date to" field, to state when I finished this job. I am still employed here and it wont let me leave it blank. Not sure what to do as putting date to today would suggest the employment ceased.

* Under Relationship it's asking me "Has it been 24 months since the date the applicant lodged their temp partner visa" Yes, or No. It's been 23 months, but do I tick Yes anyway? I know it says on the website you can apply no more than a month before eligibility...

Also should I supply a Form 80? I never did one for the 820, and was never asked to do so. Would my partner sponsor also require one if so?

I put the whatever the date was the day I answered the employment question.

If you are one month or less from your eligibility date, then you can tick "yes" and continue on.

No, you don't do a Form 80 for Stage 2. You probably didn't do it before because it wasn't on the checklist for all applicants back then. Back then, it was something they'd occasionally request from people, usually from high risk countries. I never did one either. Sponsors never require F80 regardless of which stage.
