Status

So are we all agreeing that the visa status is nothing but received unless it has been granted?
Someone here has mentioned in the past that the status attached to the visa can be received for the whole process. Then, only when granted it would change.

I don't think so. Ours said further assessment while they were assessing and then yesterday we got ours granted!! (so damn excited). Once granted the status changes (see attachment)

Congratulations! How long was it as 'further assessment' and when did you apply for the 801?

Hi S.B

Thank you. Its one of the best days of our lives! I hope yours comes soon.

We were eligible to apply for the 801 on 16 Feb 2018...but we didn't realise that at the time (as I thought eligibility was from the 820 grant date which was July 2016). As such we started the 801 application process in Sept 2018 but didnt complete as we were waiting for some things to happen. In January 2019 - so 10 months past eligibility-to-apply date - we got a request from DHA to provide further information (or they would assess based on what they had, which was very little). So we lodged our 801 which was very comprehensive - on 01 February 2019 and were granted on 13 February 2019. In effect that they only took 12 days to assess based on the info we have provided, but it was about 12 months processing time from the eligibility date!

My husband is from a fairly high risk country - Tanzania - that's why we made sure we were thorough. We didn't have to do another medical or another police check. Happy to answer any other questions!

Cheers

Hi Rafiki,

Yes I can Imagine, I am waiting and needing it as I want to finish my bachelor.
Anyway, so you understood in Sep 18 that the application for the 801 is based upon the lodgement day of the 820. Did they call you or anything like this to remind you?

Also, why did they ask you to provide further information? Did you apply already but with no documents?

When I applied (and we used an agent), we were told to apply for police clearance and submit it to the DHA first thing.

Hi Everyone,

Thought I should provide an update - I got my visa granted yesterday afternoon through an email, no other communications other than my husband's inquiry email a couple weeks ago. We are so happy and I hope everyone who's been waiting for a while get their visas soon!

Hi S.B

No they didn't call us - that's why we were confused. Actually we were told that nearing the end of the 2 years of the 820 we would be contacted and asked for more information. Then the rules changed and they didnt contact us and the time passed. Also if you google 'global processing times' and then put 801 in the search criteria of the DHA page - you will see that is says the processing times are calculated from when you are eligible to apply for the 801 (ie 2 years after applying for the 820).

When they asked for more information I had started the online application several months before and had filled most of it in except for the relationship evidence (the important part). But I am not sure that DHA staff can see the online application until you submit it. I think the reason was that a period of time had passed (nearly 12 months) since we were eligible and they were just starting to look at it.

My partner came in on a PMV and we supplied a Tanzanian police certificate then and a health assessment, and then with the application of the onshore 820 we also did an Australian police certificate. But this time we did not have to do police check or health check. Maybe they also look at how many times the applicant has used Medicare - and for my hubby it was only once to the doctor in 3.5 years haha!

Hope this helps in some way.

We don't have kids - so just my husband was migrating.

I never figured out the timeline app so here it is longhand

Nov 2014 - applied for PMV (offshore) (used a visa agent)
May 2015 - PMV granted
July 2015 - partner arrived Aus
Nov 2015 - married in Aus
Feb 2016 - 820 (partner visa lodged) (used same visa agent)
July 2016 - 820 granted
Feb 2018 - eligible to apply for 801
August 2018 - started online application for 801 (paid same visa agent to check our draft application)
Jan 2019 - receieved a 'please supply further information within 28 days' email from DHA (then we panicked)
1 Feb 2019 - 801 lodged online (onshore)
13 Feb 2019 - 801 granted

So our timeline for the grant of the 801 was about 12 months from the eligible date
