My partner (Italian) and I (Australian) just received notification of the 801 being granted. It is a huge relief to finally have confirmation that our future together will be possible!

We were fortunate enough to have a smooth application processing after the initial stress-inducing preparation of the 820 application in May 2016, at the end of his WHV arrival in May 2015, and the not-quite-so-stressful-but-still-pretty-stressful 801 application in May 2018. We consulted with a MARA-registered agent early on to discuss options, but ended up doing the 820 and 801 applications by ourselves. Other than the request for police check and medicals, we didn't get requests for any additional information and didn't have to do a phone interview either.

We were concerned that since we were living at my parents' house for the 12 months he was living in Australia with me on the WHV, we would have difficulty establishing the domestic nature of our de facto relationship, but I think we made up for that with the long list of other evidence we collected. Since we live in Victoria, we were unable to register our relationship until after the 820 application was lodged, but we still did it and also moved out a few months after lodging the 820, and I think the extra evidence likely helped as well despite technically occurring after the initial lodgement.

Thank you especially to everyone who has responded to our numerous posts here since we first started our immigration journey 5 (!) years ago, but also thank you to everyone who has been contributing their advice and knowledge to the forum over the years. It was a very useful resource for us, and I doubt that our application would have gone as smoothly without it!

Good luck to everyone else still waiting on their 801 - it's a fantastic feeling once it's finally in your hands!
Massive congratulations! Very happy for you.

Would you be able to give a timeline of your application? From initial application to 801 approval? It sounds like yours might be similar to mine.

Thank you

Post deleted due to ERROR on original numbers

People who get the 820's faster, tend to wait longer for the 801, and vice versa..

New here. Sorry if this question has been raised before (I couldn’t find much regarding it).

I’ve been waiting for my 801 for a very long time now. I have submitted more info around January (advised by my agent) and I have been told to just be patient and wait. Today I went to check on the myVEVO app as I have done plenty of times before and I received this message:
“Cannot confirm - The Reference Number used does not match with your current visa. Please check that you have correctly entered your details”. I have tried using both my visa grant number and my TRN with the same result. I also went on the actual webpage and got the same message. Has anyone seen this before? I tried to contact my agent but for some reason I am unable to today. Freaking out a little 😓😓

Thanks for your help!
Did you try with you 820 grant number and TRN? Should use the 801 TRN now
Thanks for replying.
I only have my 820 TRN and grant number. I haven’t received any notifications for my 801 yet!
Just wanted to say I was able to contact my agent today. I finally got the 801! Apparently immigration didn’t send any notifications to them and they had to call them to double check!
I applied for my visa in 06-2014, and got the 820 in 09-2015. So I had to wait 3.5 years for my 801. That is crazy! Anyways I’m happy now.
Good luck to everyone on here. Don’t lose hope

Why is this? And where did you get the statistics from?

Quite frankly that's disgusting. Congratulations, though.

Hi guys.. again!
So now doing all the information for my 801.. I’m completely stumped when it comes to ‘nature of commitment the applicant and sponsor have to each other’
It’s not that we are not committed but neither of us have wills and we haven’t had any period of separation. And I basically can’t think of anything that wasn’t already included for the 820?!
Help!

You elaborate from what you included in the 820.

Saving for a deposit for house
Adding each other on hospital records, work contact as next of kin
having joint assets, supporting each other emotionally, or making future plans together ( booked holidays)
correspondence to show that contact was maintained during any period of separation.
