My mortgage broker confirmed that I have to have my permanent visa before he can submit my financing, or it'll just get rejected. Some other issues mean that my husband can't be on the mortgage application. So...I'm kind of in limbo and worried that we won't get our house. I'm thinking I'll send another enquiry once the agent gets the offer documents to me. I'll be happy to get the grant at the 12 month mark...just makes it scary that the visa is the only thing holding us up from buying the house we want to get. Sigh. Otherwise, how is everyone else doing??

I just bought a house with my partner, under the 820 visa - all you have to do is get your solicitor to fill out a stat dec and a few other documents so you donít pay double Stamp Duty, but the 820 is under the list of exemptions for foreign stamp duty.

Got my loan with CBA and they didnít question my visa (much), so it shouldnít hold you back on getting your home!

Hi everyone , here is my timeline :

820 applied - 8/8/16
820 granted - 10/7/17 - 11months
801 eligible - 8/7/18
801 applied - 15/8/18
801 granted - 7/8/19 - just a bit under 12 months

I’m from Brazil and my husband Australian. We were already married when we applied for our 820.
We applied by ourselves for both stages.
The immigration didn’t contact us during the process for the second stage (801).
I hope this info will help you to keep your hopes up! Good luck 🙌🏻🙌🏻

And that would be true if my husband was also on the financing. He is not. It's solely in my name. Hence, needing my 801 completed. But thanks anyway.

I have heard that some people on the 820 can get a mortgage in their own name, (ie: without the Australian partner on the title etc) but they face the problem of the foreign buyer surcharge and needing approval from the FIRB board. And of course they can't get the first home owners grant.

Much easier once the 801 is granted.

Hope you get it soon.

Hi,
I have applied for 820/801 VISA
Applied on 30th Sep 2018
Submitted all the documents including PCC etc, medicals done. No response from immi yet. This is my 11th month. Still waiting. Anyone from India applied being onshore here? Any idea when I can expect 820? Planning to travel to India during Christmas holidays, if I don't get 820 till then, I will need to get another bridging VISA B.

You're posting in the wrong waiting room I think. This is for those who've held their 820 and awaiting their 801.

Anyways, basically you and I are in the same situation and we're very well within the processing time (22-28 months).

I applied on 31Aug2018 and haven't heard anything.
I've uploaded everything except my overseas police check, which will be uploaded later this month.
I also need to attend my friends' wedding in Asia this December too.

I'm hoping that when I apply for the BVB next month it will also nudge them to look at my case along with the BVB.

Hey there,
Thanks for your reply. Which thread should i follow for current 820 visa timelines? Does it generally take 22 to 28 months to get 820 itself? I see people mentioning they got 820 visa in 10 or 11 months?

75% were done in 22 months or less, some of those are under 12 months. 10% took over 28 months.
