The case officer have requested Federal Police Clearance so I have applied for it yesterday.
I'm going back to Vietnam with my husband next month to visit my family (November).
Is it a big risk if going overseas while my visa is in stage 2 with "Further Assessment"?
Thank you
am from Vietnam too ^^. after u have uploaded the Police check to immi account i think you would get the visa within a matter of days as the case officer is processing yours. you should have the visa granted within this month before you go back to Vietnam in Nov.

btw, can I plz know when you first apply for 820 visa? mine was mid sep 2016, so a bit more than 3 years now. cheers

I am from a high-risk country (Ukraine) and received the grant while oversees ( we are doing some long-term travelling).

No contact from immigration at all since the grant of temporary residence, but I've been uploading new evidence every couple of months.
congrats!! you r from a high risk country but i noticed that applicants from Ukraine and Thailand usually get the 801 much quicker than Vietnam

Approved!

I got my visa approved on the 3rd of October. Long time lurker here too. 2nd post so far I think.

I am HIV positive so my journey might be different to most of you all. I had to go through the health waiver process.

My timeline:
Applied for 820/801: September 2015
Health Waiver submission: Feb 2017
Asked for health waiver again (DIBP made an error): April 2018
Asked for new health check and also AFP check: Jan 2019
Asked for s56 (Request for more information) : Jun 2019
820 and 801 approved at the same time: October 2019

I sent immigration emails and called them a few times in a these 4 years. It has been a long 4 years since I didn't get my 820 and was on bridging most of the time. Every time I applied for a BVB it seemed to get them looking at my files again though.

Thanks everyone for all the information

Oh tpt552007, that would be a dream come true if getting the visa in a matter of days (after waiting for soooo long).
I first apply for 820 in July 2016 then applied for 2018 July 2018

Congrats, that sounds like a really hard and stressful journey. I couldn’t imagine having to wait 4 years with no news not even a temporary. I guess maybe it took so long cause they wanted to see how you are over a long period cause some people with HIV on medication have no issues at all but some do and they wanted to see how much you ‘cost’? Which is awful and I hate that. 😕
Then again also sounds like it could have just been shoved around desks with no one wanting to deal with it because wasn’t straight forward.
Regardless congrats, I’m happy for you must be so relieving after so long.

I applied 820 2months after you. So hopefully mine would be processed before xmas. Immigrants in the US have American dreams. We also have our Australian dreams and your dream will come true shortly. ^_^

801 approved!

Hi all,

Just thought I would share some good news finally after more than 4 years my wife's 801 visa was approved today!!! She is from Vietnam if anyone is curious and our application is quite straight forward (ie, no kids yet, married, living together, bought a house together, no police record, etc)

After waiting for over 27 months on the 801 visa approval and contacting the deparment 3 times with no response I decided to contact my local federal member of parliament to see if they can get an update...low and behold the visa was approved within 3 hours of them contacting immigration

Here is our timeline:

820 application submitted: 2nd of July 2015
820 granted: 1st of April 2016
801 Eligibilty date: 2nd of July 2017
801 Submitted: 6th of July 2017
Assigned to CO and requested few more docs: 23rd of July 2019
Additional documents added (888 x 2 + Stat Dec): 29th of July 2019
801 granted: 8th of October 2019

Good luck to all and thankyou to all of those people who have helped us along the way on this forum.

Cheers,
Chillylounge

Yeah sure, first you need to know who it is so you need to go here and search by your postcode: https://www.aph.gov.au/senators_and_members/members

Once you have that information then you can find their email address by googling their name as each member of parliament will have a webpage. So just send them an email, explain the situation and ask for help.

Note that they cannot help with the outcome itself but they can help with getting you an update on progress. It must be your federal member of parliament (not state or local) as immigration is a federal matter.

Good luck!
