Please update your flag here .

Very unlikely. Australia loves the income from international student fees.

It isn't really classed as a compelling reason.

However, I think I recall one person asking and the visa did come through. Not sure if that was the reason though.[/QUOTE]

Thank you for your response .
I see that you are a very active member in this forum do you recommend I try to contact them or better wait for them to finalize my application .?
Thanks

Does anyone ever have asked the immi office to fast track there application cause of this reason and does the immi office help them at all?
I’m waiting for my 801 visa 5 months now status is further assessment.
Thanks
I have a friend that was on 820, studying and employed in her field. She was going on to study PHD but could only do so if a permanent resident.

She, her partner and her employer all wrote to immigration and requested urgent processing of 801 and it was approved in a matter of hours.

Her line of work and PHD research would have made a very compelling case however.

Yeah that’s sound much more compelling than my case as I only hold a diploma and I want to further study in the field with no previous experience.
I just don’t want the case officer to this I’m disrespectful by asking to get the grand faster than the other just because I want to study cheaper .
Any suggestions on if I should contact them or not?

I just want to be clear for the timing it take to get 801 visa.
When they say it takes 17 - 24 months, does it mean from the start when my 820 visa was approved in June 2016 or when Stage 2 - Permanent Partner Visa Assessment (100,801) was submitted in July 2018?
Thanks in advance

From eligibility, ie. Two years from the lodgment of your 820, not approval or submission if your 801.

Also important to note that 75% of applicants are processed within 17 months based on current timeline but many take less time.

Mine only took 3 months

Thanks for replying Lewis2017 but you got me confused.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Not approval or submission if your 801..."
So that means I have been waiting more than 24 months since June 2016 when my 820 visa was approved?

As an example;
820 lodgment - 01/01/2016
820 Approval - 01/01/2017
801 Eligibility - 01/01/2018 (two years from lodgment of 820)
801 Approval (Based off current timelines) - anywhere from eligibility until 01/01/2020.

If you’ve been waiting for more than 24 months from your eligibility date (to reiterate, this is 2 years after the submission of your 820) you are outside the standard processing times and might be worth touching base with the department

The 801 processing times are from the date: two years after the date that you submitted your 820. So if you get the 801 after 12 months, (a common 801 processing time) it would be 36 months after your 820 submission date.

Thanks for clearing this up Lewis2017 JandE, much appreciated

Oh my god, so that means I have been waiting 40 months since my 820 visa approved (June 2016) where suppose to be 17 - 24 months. I think I must contact my Federal MP for that matter.

June 2016 - 820 approved
July 2018 - 801 submitted (now Stage 2 under assessment)

Gosh...it's so confusing.
I assumed the processing time of 17-24 months started from the time 801 was submitted....
And the immi website doesn't specify clearly either...
