Hi Mish,
based on your observation to the current political climate, do you think that the new citizenship changes will get approved through the Parliament ?? I read an article last week that Labor and Green will vote against it.

I am OK with the English requirements, but 4 years after PR is not fair at all as it will mainly affect family stream visa.
it will take more than 8 years to get the citizenship if you come through PMV/820/801 stream.

Congratulation s4161441, enjoy a happy life in Australia. Hopefully the waiting period will not increase for Permanent residents.

It can either way. It is going to be very close either way it goes. It is going to come down to how the independents vote. The best way is to email the independents and tell you story and explain how long you have been in Australia etc.

The changes will affect a lot other people too for example, student visa holders, 457 visa holders. The only people that will not be affected are those that arrive in Australia on a permanent visa.

One thing that Peter Dutton has failed to mention when comparing other countries citizenship is that a lot of the other countries have a different eligibility requirement for those that are married to a citizen of the country.

- happy 91,

I did some stupid things - criminal but which it was trivial, where no conviction was recorded thats why they requested the court outcome
