Home loans for Australian citizens who are self employed is really hard too. I know a couple of people who are self employed and it was hard for them. They are really in a lose, lose situation - they try to have alot of deductions to reduce their taxes however they need higher income to apply for a loan.

As some of you may know, I have been waiting too long for the visa outcome, nearly 4 years since the initial application. For the worst part, the 801 visa, almost 2 years since eligible date. I lodged complain 2 weeks ago, at first I thought they don't give a sh*t, but they do!

So today I receive a phone call for a quick chat, well it was over 10 min asking some very facts question. At the end I asked how much longer should I will be waiting for the outcome, she said "about a week". But on the way home, I got a grant email. Simply amazing!

So, anyone who has been waiting longer the Department's service standard, please lodge a formal inquiry, you never know. And "remember, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Thanks anyone who given good advices and courage. What a relief!

Dear SoltGoes,

Congratulations for the grant of your visa. Finally, you received and you reached the final of the tunnel. You deserve it in deed.

Enjoy the rest of your life

I have waited close to 20 months for my PR and about a month and a half ago I sent a complaint. Got a standard response, but about a week later I was asked to send a new police check and evidence supporting our relationship (new stat decs from the applicant and the sponsor, 2 x new 888 forms, proof of combined financials, mutual photos etc). I sent everything off about a week ago (it was within the 28 day timeframe) and received an automatic reply as a response regarding their updated waiting times etc. I was hoping that since this case has dragged, what feels like forever, I would be getting the decision sooner rather than later. Since submitting my docs I have discovered that the Immigration has once again extended the waiting period. I am unsure whether I fall under the new timeframe or should they get back to me within 14 days given that they requested more info? Or is it completely random and I am once again out of sight, out of mind?
I am in a same sex de facto relationship and my partner feels like perhaps the whole delay is because of that. I must say the whole waiting game has made me a little uneasy and I would like to know whether anyone has been in the same boat regarding sending new evidence and then waiting to hear back.
Thanks for any advice/ideas.
THE day has come! Our PR was granted two days ago. It has been a little over three weeks since we submitted all of our docs. The immigration agent called my partner to have a quick chat. Questions were very basic, about our daily life, what our future plans are and basically just going over what we had said in our statements. The phone call was about 30 minutes as my partner tends to be quite chatty, hehe! An hour after the phone call I checked my email and there it was- my 801 grant!

Country: Low risk
Relationship: Same sex de-facto
Applied for 820: December 2013
820 granted: March 2015
Eligible for 801: December 2015
801 granted: August 2017

Thank you everyone (especially Mish) for your continuous support and positivity!

What would you expect to receive/hear from the Department? I understand that you are on 820 visa for about 5 months, but don't know your eligible date for 801 visa. You might hear nothing from the Department, just go ahead to submit documents for second stage when you getting close to 2 years mark.

Then keep your toes and fingers crossed. G'luck mate.

Hey Abuii,

Accordingt to your post, you were granted Temporary visa 820 in March 2017. What elso were you expecting from Immigration?

You will be eligible for the PR 801 visa 2 years after your initial application date. And you need to submit further evidence of your relationship exaclty after the 2 years elapses. The 2 years is counted from the application 820 visa date.
