I just spent a good part of the day writing my current relationship statements on word so to adhere to the 2000 character limit. Unfortunately, I completely forgot the trouble I had with my 820 with copy and pasting what I wrote from MS Word to the application. I worked hard getting my writing down to 2000 characters each and don't want to simply attach the document after all that; is there anything I can do formatting wise to copy and paste or is there a browser that will allow me to do this? I'm on chrome.

Post 801 visa granted

Hi all,

Today my partner (UK citizen) received her 801 visa grant notification after just over three (3) years of waiting.

My partner and I are long-time readers of the forum but I think this is my first post. I always appreciated when people put their processing timelines up and I wanted to do the same:
  • 29 September 2014
- Immi Acknowledgement of Application Received
  • 29 September 2014
- Bridging Visa Grant Notification
  • 17 November 2015
- Immi Visa Grant notification - Stage 1 820 visa Grant Notification
  • 29 September 2016
- 801 visa Eligibility Date (two (2) years after initial application)
  • 16 October 2017
- 801 Application Submitted Date
We continued to attach documents as new evidence arrived.
  • 31 August 2017
- Tired of waiting, I contacted Immigration using the Webform to politely ask about the status of my application. (I cant post links, but it is border . gov . au / about / contact / make-enquiry / general
  • 31 August 2017
- Request for Information - Later on the same day after contacting DIBP, I received an email, a request for additional information to attach two documents.(Coincidence - I don't think so)
  • 19 October 2017
- Contacted DIBP via the Webform again, politely saying I had provided the required documents, and asking if anything further was needed.
  • 19 October 2017
- 801 Grant Notification

We received the 801 visa grant within about 20 minutes of me submitting an enquiry via the online Webform.

I don't think that this is a coincidence, but I do think it is important to be respectful and courteous to the DIBP officer reading the email, and to be very clear in what you are asking for when you contact DIBP. I also think it is important to have an almost complete set of documentation ready to view before you ask for an update.

Hope this helps, I know all we can really do is wait, but I hope the fact that some of us are receiving good news as the department processes our applications ta a glacial pace is of some comfort to you all.

Good luck

Hi guys,

one question, hope you can help me:
my eligibility date was 2nd march 2017, i did my 801 application 10 days later, so i dont really expect my visa to be approved until at least march 2018.
Recently, me and my aussie girlfriend came to my home country Mexico for a 4 month long holiday to be with my parents as I hadnt been back home in years.
I checked my VEVO status from Mexico, and I found it now says "offshore" and "visa expiry date: 31 august 2037" instead of indefinite.

Is this alright?? has anybody been in that situation before?
Also, we under temporary partner visa 820m dont have any travel restrictions right?
I mean, Im perfectly fine if we stay in Mexico for some 4 months right?

at the IMMI phone they even told me I could be out of australia when the decision is made.

thanks a lot!

That is quite normal when you are waiting on the 801 decision.

You are fine to stay out of Australia as long as you want, you can be outside Australia when the decision is made. The only thing is it may affect citizenship eligibility if that is something that you want down the track.

Scratch my last post, I've finally submitted my application two days after my eligibility date. It was kind of awkward saying that I've been unemployed for the majority of my stay, but the sad fact is that I live in an area with a high unemployment rate.

There is no sponsorship application my partner has to do, like with the 820 right? Only just the Partner Stat Dec?

Thanks Mish!

yeah just wanted to make sure everything is in order while we are on holidays we keep uploading updates and photo albums through our wait period anyways, but that 2037 thingy made me wonder a bit if there were consequences of leaving australia during our wait period.
yeah, for the citizenship thing, I hope I dont get approved until I get back in sydney so I still have my "out of australia" days untouched hehe

Correct, only the stat dec for your partner.

Don't worry about your employment status, I don't know why they ask about it, but it is all about the relationship not if you have a job or not.

Thank you for the reassurance, Mish. I didn't mind so much stating that I was unemployed so much as why they asked why I was. I simply sited the unemployment rate in my area, and that I frequently apply places.

Odd that my application says "assessment in progress" right away. With the 820 it stayed at "received" and only changed to "assessment in progress" right before it was granted.

Sorry to jump into the convo but what are the "Out of Australia days"? (I understand that they are days that you are outside Australia, but how do they affect citizenship down the track and how many days are you entitled to? Do you have a link to somewhere I can read up on this further? Thsank you kindly.

Thank you HRose313 I didn't realise we still had up to another year to wait! EEK! I thought it was happening as we speak! How depressing. Thank you kindly for the updated info.
