AFP Check

Hi all!

I will be applying for partner visa 309 from India, Australian High Commission in New Delhi.

I have lived in Australia for the last 4 and a half years with my husband.

I applied for a partner visa 820 at the Brisbane DIAC office on Dec 31, 2012 and got denied after a relationship of 2 and a half years on the basis that "no evidence of a genuine relationship was provided", when in fact the officer who took my file did not take any documents proving our relationship.
$3060 gone in waste!

So after having to go offshore with my husband who is Australian by birth, I will be applying again for a spouse visa 309. I need to apply for a PCC from the Australian Federal Police because I have lived in Australia for over 4 years.

I would like to know if anyone knows what kind of police check should I apply for? On the AFP website there are two types of checks;
1. Name check - $42; or
2. Name and fingerprint check- $139

I'm from India. Does it depend on what country one comes from or is it the same for everyone?

Thank you all for your help.
Look forward to your suggestions.

Kind Regards,
Becky

Becky, your question would have gotten lost among the hundreds of topics in the Timeline thread, so I separated it out to give you your own thread. Hopefully someone can help.

If you are required to provide an Australian police check (also known as an Australian penal clearance certificate), you must complete the National Police Check application form that is available from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) website AFP Homepage - Australian Federal Police

You should use Code 33 at Question 1 on the form and include details of any, and all, names you have been known by. If an AFP certificate is provided based on incorrect information, the department may request another certificate. Fingerprints are not required for National Police Checks.
Police checks are valid only for 12 months from the date of issue.

More information on police checks, including overseas police checks, is available from the department’s website Character Requirement - Applications & Forms

Hi ausfill,

Thank you for your reply. I got my police report in 2 weeks from Australia to India. They processed my application in 1 day. I couldn't believe it.
My husband and I submitted our application on July 19, 2013.
Just hoping for a quick processing.
Thanks again or your help.

Kind Regards,
Becky
