Those statistics are on this board somewhere... darn if I can remember where, though.

I often wonder how many people actually fulfil all the documentation requirements of the application "beyond doubt"......or actually read the instructions.

So many people just assume the case officer will understand what they have written....

So few actually check that it makes sense before submitting.....e.g. get someone else to read it

I think the case officers generally have a very hard job......and the government is heading towards a full "user pays" system...just like many other countries.

Information posted in this thread might give you the information you're looking for:

Which countries? The Australian partner visa is by far the most expensive one I have ever come across, and I've researched the big players in the Western world. Perhaps you're thinking about residence visas for people who have no previous connections to a country - "investor visas"? The ones that allow you to set up residence in any country just because you feel like it, but require upwards of 100 grand in the bank for the privilege?

I don't think any country has a full user-pays system for partner visas, as that would simply be inhumane and actually against human rights (it would be a direct obstacle to clause 1 of article 16 of the Universal Declaration for Human Rights, namely, "Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family").

If there are other countries that require the equivalent of thousands of dollars for a spouse residence visa, please tell me which, as I would love to know.

That's exactly what I was thinking of, Adventuress, thanks!

Though it breaks my heart to see that it was melandabdul who posted it originally. Ugh.

Aleese, melandabdul was another forum regular here with a genuine relationship... and she too got rejected. It was awful. She and her fiance then had absolutely no way to be together, so they had to call it quits. I was heartbreaking.

Yes, my heart breaks all over again whenever I see her name in threads she's started here.

It is stories like hers, chicken999's, and the many others I have read here, as well as our own experience skirting too close to a negative decision, that will never allow me to consider the current system fair or consistent.

kmarees1986 and CollegeGirl like this.
