HI,

My wife is sponsoring her sister and we expect her to arrive in Australia in the first week of November.

However, She has just got the sponsored family visitor visa and she has been told to enter Australia before the 11th of October.

Can the date of arrival on the visa be changed by the immigration department if requested or will we need to cancel the visa and re apply for a new visa?

Can somebody please help with this query?

Thanks

Hi there, its quite strange the entry date is so soon. I don't know the answer but normally once DIAC stipulate an entry date it cannot be changed. Your sister in law would have had an opportunity to indicate her attended arrival date on the application.

I'd call DIAC to find out if I were you!

Thank you for your quick reply. When we had put the application in, we had put the estimated date of arrival as 1st of october and departure as the end of january hoping that she will get a visa of more than 3 months because we were not sure when she will be coming. In the mean time we will be travelling to India and will be returning with her in early November.

I did call up DIAC and enquire and they basically said the same thing, but the problem we are facing is that they will not allow us to speak to the case officer. We have sent the case officer an email explaining the situation and are still waiting to hear from them. The officer to whom we spoke mentioned it would be better to cancel this visa and for my sister in law to apply as a visitor visa from India which most likely we will be doing depending on when and what reply we get from the case officer.
