5year sponsorship date duration - any changes?

Hi forum,

Pardon me as I know this question has been covered a number of times but I wanted to confirm that the 5 year sponsorship rule, ie - the duration which covers the 5 years , is still from the date you applied for the first sponsorship to 5 years later?

EG. Applied for first visa in Feb 2013, so can apply for second time in Feb 2018?

I ask this question as a friend mentioned of a case that he heard of on the radio, where a person had applied with the above time frame but was denied and advised to apply from the date of first visa granted?

Appreciate your responses in advance!

It is best not to rely on hearsay advice, especially if you are not able to view the original source material.

Personally I always refer to the Migration Regulations, the Migration Act and the PAMs and I am not aware of any changes. It refers to the date of the visa application, not the visa grant. It can get tricky when there has been a sc. 300, followed by a sc. 820 application.

If it is the case I am thinking about the issue with their case was that they rang up and asked DIBP if there would be any issues because he had sponsored before and they listened to DIBP (DIBP told them no issues) and did not get the opinion of a registered migration agent.
