Extending a Tourist Visa

Hi All,

I am gearing up to apply for a tourist visa extension for my husband and am hoping there are some knowledgable souls on the forum who might be able to help. I am wondering where we need to send the application to. Since he is in Australia already, can we send the application to an Australian office or will we need to submit to his country?

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere!

kmarees,

You should be able to just submit it online via this link: https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/elp/app?formId=VSS-AP-600

My wife did this about 10 days ago and it was approved in just over 24 hours. No extra documents were necessary (I.e. Stat decs, financial statements etc).

She received a call from an immigration officer who asked why she was extending it by 6 months (it seemed like a long time), but once we said we are waiting on the processing of a partner visa, and we don't know how long that will take (but should be soon), he seemed satisfied by that. About an hour after the phone call finished, the email came through confirming it was approved.

Oh, and the fee was $290.

Let me know if you need anything else.

PS. I agree re: the ambiguity of it. We had no idea, but called up and they immediately sent us an email with the information (and that link I posted you).

If you would like that email, private message me your email address, or just give DIAC a call tomorrow and they'll instantly send it to you.

Cheers

Thanks so much for your response!! I should have been more specific - we need to lodge a paper application due to having to declare a criminal record so still confused where to post to.
