If you apply in April 18 then your year would be from April 17 to April 18.

During that time, have you spent more than 90 days out of Australia? No (provided you don't go anywhere again from now until April) because April, May, June was spent in the UK (90 days) and then July all the way to April 18 in Australia.

Haha you're welcome.

You just need to work out from April 14 until January 17 (when you left to go to the UK) have you spent more than a total of 6 months out of Australia?

If you haven't and you're not leaving the country in the next 7 months then you can apply in April 18.

The IMMI website is hopeless in some cases. All info on citizenship eligibility I can find is about the proposed changes, but not actually the other requirements that have been in place (and won't change)...

I agree, JanneKL!

You'd think with all the time they spend "upgrading the website", they'd invest some time in putting up vital information.

I had that stuff to hand as my friends husband had no idea if he was eligible yet or not so I did some digging around for him.

I still have 3.5 years to go before I'm eligible (according to both, old and proposed rules), but it doesn't hurt to get into this matter early on to know what's expected. Especially the out-of-Australia times... I know that these rules may change at some point, but it's still good to keep an eye on travel and times spend back home...

You need police checks from every country you've spent more than 90 days in since you got your PR.

Permanent residents must:
have been living in Australia on a valid Australian visa for
4 years immediately before applying which must include the
last 12 months as a permanent resident, and
not have been absent from Australia for more than one year
in the past 4 years, including no more than 90 days in the
year before applying

You can be out of the country for no more than a total of 12 months in those 4 years.

You've spent 6 months in the UK this year, have you spent a total of more than 6 months anywhere else in the past 3 years (since April 2014)?
